The results of the election IS the Electoral College dude. Republicans in Congress are in the process of trying to disregard the results of the Electoral College.

I don't like the electoral college and support it being abolished, but I don't support the republicans efforts because Biden won the popular vote.

Yeah. But they aren't saying the EC shouldn't exist the way some Dems did last election. The GOP is saying the electors in various states should ignore reality and use their electorial votes to vote for Trump.

You couched the thread as the GOP wanting to ignore the electoral college but that isn't what they are doing. They want to use the electoral college in a way that doesn't represent what the people in some states voted for.

No it isn't. If they were arguing the EC shouldn't exist then Biden would be the clear winner. They aren't doing that for obvious reasons.

I'm not trying to fight with you or the poll. What the GOP is doing is wrong and shameful but there is a difference between ignoring the EC and manipulating it to their advantage. (Edit* and it's not semantics)

No. If the Electoral College didn't exist, then Congress can simply pass a law stating who the President is. Nowhere in the Constitution does it state that POTUS is decided by a popular vote.

By having Congress assign 'electoral votes', you're destroying the very concept of the Electoral College. The entire point of the Electoral College is that state electors decide where those votes go. If Congress gets to disregard what state electors want, then you are rendering the Electoral College meaningless.

The GOP in some states had their own electors cast votes despite losing. I think their plan is to pretend that these votes are disputed rather than losers pretending that they won.

What the GOP is attempting is to not certify the results from enough states such that an EC victory for Trump is engineered via the states that remain. It's not a negation of the EC; in fact it's a scheme that is only plausible because of the EC system.

That, in itself, is a negation of the EC. It is literally going against what the Constitution says how to count the EC.
