Took me around 150 hours.
I think it's the weakest ark of the story so far, but it was still very enjoyable.
I am now filled with the void you get when you finish a game you invested a lot of time into.

Here's hoping the localize Hajimari and beyond!

the trails series is one story starting from trails in the sky. if you start with cold steel you're going to be missing a lot of crucial story. it'd be like skipping harry potter 1-3 and starting at harry potter 4

What post 3 said, and like I said, Cold Steel is the weakest part of the story for me. Sounds like you already played 1 and 2, if you're invested you might as well go back and play the Sky trilogy.

Literally one of the major, endgame plot points of CS3 is something that was introduced in the Sky arc.

One of the most pogged moments in 4 for me was seeing jpegs of old characters for 5 seconds.

A lot of people like to use this analogy: Starting off with the Cold Steel games (especially 3 and 4) is like watching Infinity War and Endgame without watching the other Marvel movies.

I disagree with this. You'd be missing some of the story sure, and some of the characters in especially 3 and 4 wouldn't mean anything to you, but everything in the past games is explained well enough that you can start with Cold Steel 1 and be fine

As for this, no. You really need to at least play Cold Steel 1 and 2 before starting 3. Even better if you can play Sky, but i played them after CS2 (lot of Sky characters and story references start popping up in CS3) and that did the trick.

Edit: maybe I misunderstood you and you did play CS 1 and 2

But no you don't have to play anything other than the CS games from the beginning to know whats going on later, because as I said they lay out the main things that happened in the previous games

oh oops i shoulda clarified i finished and greatly enjoyed CS 1 and 2 lol, been trying to get into Sky 1 but its battles (and story) are a bit slow compared to Cold Steel :(

Well, every first Trails game is slow compared to the second lol. Same actually goes for CS 3 going into 4. The first game sets everything up. I actually greatly love that

Rest assured tho shit does go down in the 2nd, and even a bit in the later parts of 1

Well, every first Trails game is slow compared to the second lol.

Basically this. Cold Steel 1 started slow, Zero started slow, Sky FC started slow. Once you get further into the games it really starts to get going. Sky simply just suffers from this the most cuz it the first game of the series. It didn't have the pleasure of just fleshing out already established problems.

I discovered the trails series at the beginning of 2020 and now I basically think theyre gods gift to this earth. Hajimari is my favorite in the series, so I cant wait till its localized so more people can play it.

This is kinda the same for me. When lockdowns started in April, I had just come off of Persona 5 Royal and was looking for something similar

Cold Steel 1 fit the bill and I've been hooked ever since. Played Sky 1 and 2, and CS up until the end of CS4 last year, when I finally started to get burnt out lol. Gotta go back and finish it

Im the opposite, I finished all the games then went back and began a replay playing the evolution versions of the games on vita.

After that Ill probably play Tokyo Xanadu and by then Kuro should be out in Japan and Ill play that. Falcom has me by the balls at this point.

and for what its worth i was actually enjoying the start of CS4 until rean rejoined and then it just proceeded to cliffdive from there

The Cold Steel games aren't bad, but it's basically been universally accepted that the Sky and Crossbell games are better in terms of story.

Sky and Crossbell are definitely better in my opinion, but coldsteel is still incredible.

No, he's not. I mean he's entitled to his opinion but I find CS to be flat out better in most respects than Sky

but i do firmly believe the storytelling in the arc is awful

At least we agree Altina is great

CS is definitely the weakest part of the series, but a lot of its problems come from the Crossbell games imo.

Something about too many cooks in the kitchen, some characters just become bystanders/commentators without contributing etc
