Well I found an answer on Quora (I Googled "Dr. Doom rules the world" and it was the first result), although it was really wordy. The tl;dr version was that he kidnapped a villain named Purple Man whose body produces mind-controlling pheromones, and used a machine to use them to rule the world. And although that did make the world a better place, Doom got bored with no one to fight lol. So when people started to break free, he let them overthrow him.

That is soooo wild wth!!! Great plot though too. In theory he himseld would agree with Abrahamic faiths philosophy on the necessity of free-will to the extent he would allow himself to be over thrown. Maybe there is something more to Dr. Doom

Maybe the infinite tsukoyomi was inspired by that too btw

Nope. He was a narcissistic piece of dick cheese who imposed his world view on others and took delight in killing good people. I was very relieved when he finally lost, though I did end up feeling somewhat sorry for him.

I like that. I like that death note wrote such a good depiction of the duality of humanity that it's fan base can be 100% invested in the series while divided by rooting for either Light or L while seeing the flaws or good in both.

Light didn't even go after real monsters. He seemed to be too preoccupied with Japan, you would think his first instinct after finding out it worked would be killing fugitive terrorists, Khmer Rouge officials and the masterminds of the Rwandan Genocide, not killing penny-ante Japanese criminals.

And remember, a few years before Death Note came out, Ace Attorney came out to tell a story rooted in how the Japanese legal system tended to railroad anyone in it rather than seek truth to guilt or innocence.

I am grateful DN didn't touch on that because it would have ruined to focus, but it's really hard to root for Light given what we know about the legal system in many countries.

That's a bit of an internet prevalent myth.
Takumi originally envisioned it as a private eye detective game, not a lawyer game, which is why Phoenix does so much of the work and why "trials" were structured the way they were. https://www.capcom-unity.com/zeroobjections/blog/2014/09/12/the-early-days-of-ace-attorney
It was originally going to be detectives arguing with each other. "Igiari" (which became Objection) is a relatively rude version of "I disagree!" or "You're wrong!" in Japanese, which is pretty much non-existent in Japanese court.

https://www.destructoid.com/stories/objection-a-look-at-ace-attorney-s-depiction-of-law-and-popular-views-of-thus-395554.phtml
There is no hard evidence that Shu Takumi or anyone at Capcom was aiming for parody, critique, or anything more than simply making an entertaining game. I won't cite interpretations as fact, but it's always fun to talk about.

Imagine, that could be great work for a second death note series

Because its the same idiot anime character whos nave about the world, has big dreams to rise to the top, and loves ramen (Or just food Im general.) and their fan bases are usually pretty annoying, with the exception of the One piece fandom, I think. I hate the series but idk about the community at all. Though this is irrelevant to light Yagami.

I feel that!
But in that case if he was in this world and you were to judge that he shouldn't live for his judgement of others, would that make you this world's version of L/Mello/Near? If you caught hint of Lights evil in this world would you take it upon yourself to stop him?(if you had L's exact resources)

I cant say yes or no tbh. What Id do in such an act of danger isnt known by even myself.
The only thing I can say is i still wouldnt kill him unless i really have to. What Im about to say can make some people angry, but death is never needed, it is only excused. If I happened to go along with stopping him and had his fate in my hands, Id lock him in an underground facility with absolutely no means of killing.
Either way I didnt like him at all. I thought he was evil but the world wasnt mine so I was rooting for him to win. Or I just wanted better plot.

That is understandable then

And that makes sense on screen it is interesting to see how his plot plays out as a character should, but in this world his personality wouldn't be that far from a certain dictator in ways so it'd be easy for people aware of his actions to hate him.

On another note I wonder if you locked him underground and he had no means of escape/murder; would ryuk still just throw light he assist and kill him?
But kudos to you for not killing the guy and just locking him away!
