my neice i currently dipping eggo waffles in a jar of prego sauce and I want to be sure that's safe.

If it's unopened sure. After that you gotta refrigerate it then maybe heat it up.

Yes, that's fine. Even when it's used to make a pasta dish, you're basically just warming it up rather than 'cooking' it.

as long as the can or jar doesn't have a swollen top when you first open it. botulism is uncommon in acidic foods like tomato sauce, but it is still possible.

I basically never heat it up. I just pour it over pasta. The only time I ever cooked with it was cooking meatballs in it
