Man, screw Wizpig. That damn race took me at least two hours to beat. That said, it's great to finally get the monkey off my back. I played the game when it was new, and again in 2004, and I never beat Wizpig before today.

The first day of 2021 and I beat a boss who's had my number for 16 years. Good way to kick things off, eh?

Wizpig 1

I don't care that the day isn't yet saved. He can eat the little island critters for all I care. I beat him in a race and that's that.

(I probably will continue the game, but not tonight.)

You know, I gotta love the logic of video games sometimes.

"We should race planes in the active volcano."
"Yeah. And then later we can go back and race through the lava in our hovercrafts."

It's still fun, though I think programmers expected too much of players. For a game meant primarily for children, it has some pretty unrealistic expectations in some of the boss races and silver coin challenges.

I remember a constant level of frustration that came with playing that game, but I loved it. I'm surprised at the dedication I had as a kid to actually be able to beat it.

You'd be wrong. Played it a few years ago, no real issues to speak of!

The game is still my favorite racer of all time, but yeah, it is brutally hard.

I wouldn't say that. I beat it as a kid. The only thing I'm still stumped on us unlocking Adventure 2.

Some of my favorite stages, as for Wizpig, as I kid I wrecked him several times once I got past his intimidation. He's cake if you use Diddy, Pipsy, Tip-Tup or really any of the characters who have tight turning. the second go around you're not so much as fighting him but his bullshit stage. full of traps.

If you want to live dangerously try facing him as Drumstick or Krump.

I beat Wizpig as a kid back in the days my dumbass never knew that you could get a boost by pressing the A on the boost pad itself to go even faster and to top it off my stupid ass always picked Pipsy because she was faster. I replayed it around 2012 and found out about this info. I even got in front of the fucking pig so that he could push like 4 times in the race to beat him. Took me forever....I felt really stupid when I found this out...

GJ bro the first wizpig is always a tricky challenge the first time. The second one is.....idk. Easier in some ways, harder in others. I guess it depends on how your skills are with the plane. There's no water to fall in, which is nice because that's almost always an instant loss.

As far as difficulty for the intended audience....I'm split on that one. Some things are hard, but the good thing about that is it teaches kids determination and accomplishment. I was probably 9 years old playing this and I remember finally getting the greenwood village silver coins and I felt like a champion. It took me forever to beat the wizpigs, but I never gave up and finally got them.

It's rareware too man, this game is pretty easy by their standards. Go play Cobra Triangle back on the NES and tell me how hard DKR is, lol. It's literally 100 times more difficult and I'm not even exaggerating. I wouldn't be able to beat that game even if the reward was endless sex with the most beautiful female on earth. It's THAT difficult!

I own a copy of that game. I only made it as far as beating the first boss - the sea serpent on the cartridge cover. I may have to try that one for real sometime.

best milestones of diddy kong racing 64

-beating the dino boss
-silver coin challenge frosty village
-beating the walrus
-greenwood village silver coin challenge finished
-beating the fucking dragon. especially the second time
-beating octopus boss
-beating wizpig for the first time, and without the green boost.
-unlocking future funland
-ff silver coin challenges
-beating wizpig for the second time
-unlocking mirror mode
-unlocking tt

it's a shame the DS version butchered the game. -conker and banjo were out (wtf) and got replaced by dixie.
-all the voices were completely changed and the story dialogue completely taken out
- silver coin challenges (replaced by touch screen balloons).
- No magic codes
-characters rebalanced. tt was medicore and drumstick got buffed
-customizable parts, which everyone focused on speed online.
-mediocore create a track

only good thing about the game was taj and wizpig as characters (broken on kart and airplane) and the extra jungle tracks

To be fair, Conker is virtually uncontrollable on turns and Banjo is slower than molasses. I think the programmers resented having to babysit future mascot characters because those two are pretty much unplayable. If it just takes time to get used to them, it takes more time than I'm willing to give. <_<

In Mario Kart 64, all characters have their strengths and weaknesses. In DKR, some characters are just not good. It's completely pointless to play as Krunch outside of a hovercraft race or a battle mode.
