It's in the math. 360 x 3 is 1080, whereas you have to multiply 480 by 2.25 meaning some pixels are being repeated.
So why was 480p chosen for stuff like DVD over 360p? ... Copied to Clipboard!

Very stupid topic.
360p does not look better than 480p. And 480i on DVD was what many TVs were doing. We were on standard definition televisions when DVDs were created. Broadcasting was 480i at the time in the US, for example. --- Holy crap! How have I not set a signature for the message boards yet? ... Copied to Clipboard!

By the time 480p TVs started getting made 720p started becoming available at the same time at no real price difference.
