I woke up this morning to a Steam gift of the game.

This will be my first real try at a Persona game. I played a bit of 3 FES on my PS3, years ago

TC the best advice i can give you is to make sure 100% that you absolutely choose Chie as the best girl.

Take your time. Every monday go to the vending machines and by SP (Mana) healing items. Try to finish the dungeons in 1 day. You don't have to choose 1 girl, you can date multiple, be a chad.

Work on upgrading your social stats early. Always have a Persona of the matching arcana when spending time with a social link.

Honestly just relax and have fun. Don't worry about trying to make every S Link in 1 run or you'll burn yourself out. You can do that on NG+

Also this. Once you get Chie into your party, the game pretty much opens up and becomes free-roam from there. But until then, you're railroaded pretty hard which can be tedious

To go out at night, you need to get a night-time job from the job board. Recommend starting with Dishwasher

Dilligence is a bit of a dump stat. You really dont need it higher than level 3 for anything important, iirc. (Or if you really like fishing)

Status moves and debuffs are your friend. A lot of tough enemies and even mini-bosses are weak to things like panic and poison.

Slime is a really good starting Persona, as its one of your few options to resist physical attacks.
you can also grind it to learn the resist physical skill (in addition to its innate resistance) and then pass it on to stronger personas through fusion.

mild gameplay spoilers for social links that may not be obvious

Get the hospital job social link to level 2 or 3 to unlock the Death social link. Death is available every Sunday and ranks up automatically, so its a really easy and convenient one to do.

after a certain event with a brother, find him and talk to him in the hallway for two or three days if you want to unlock his social link

Ai Ebihara has a weird, multi-route social link. You may want to look at a guide if you want to romance her.

likewise, your final party member has a missable romance flag if youre interested in that

Yeah, pretty much. You need to strike a balance between working on your social stats, working on social links, and going to the TV world. Rainy days are especially noteworthy, because it allows you to get the mega beef bowl challenge, and you gain extra knowledge for studying during the rain.

One of the activities in the game is reading. You can spend an evening reading a book. it takes between two to four nights to complete a book, and you get a bonus once you complete it. Try to save the long books for later on, after you have access to the book that allows you to speed read.

Try to only go to the TV world once per month cycle. It's the most efficient use of time if you can fit your rescuing in one night.

You can befriend an inari in a social link. it follows you into the TV world and gives you healing options. Try to raise this social link up as quickly as possible, because the cost for healing goes down the higher your rank is. Makes it far more feasible to grind.

Oh, also, if you want to romance Yukiko or Chie, doing so before mid-June unlocks a unique event/dialogue during a summer festival. If you dont, youll default to another friend party member. Its not necessary and you dont get any rewards. But if thats what your into... >_>

Kinda of. Naoto is the only one who gives you a unique costume. (But you need to pick specific dialogue options on her rank 10)

its a game about solving mysteries and hanging out with your friends. in my opinion, op, you should solve some mysteries and hang out with your friends

also dont end up like the people who talk about best girls in this thread. you meet them in the game as well and they are called "shadows" and you will see why they are bad

There is something cool and gameplay-related you get for maxing out your party members' social links. There are gameplay benefits to ranking up non party members too in terms of fusing demons (and in terms of story you definitely want to max out Aeon as Nightmare_Luna said), so not necessarily saying you should neglect the non-party members, but still, figured I'd bring this up, because boy do I wish I was aware of said cool thing when I was playing P4G about a couple months ago.

unless you absolutely love the type of game persona is, you'll tire yourself out trying to get everything "right".

the only real thing you should take note of is to keep one persona that matches the social link you want to spend time with.
