There's one dungeon in Baiten Kaitos that is terrible.

Capella, Garden of Death

This place is covered in mud, which makes walking a very slow process. Just
keep going till you reach the house.

Imagine trying to run around a dungeon and solve problems at half speed with random encounters halting your progress.

I came here to post that one.

I honestly love it. Every JRPG with dungeons should have ONE grueling dungeon.

This. Possibly Wizardry 4. You play as the end boss from wizardry 1. In 4 you begin the game having been defeated and locked up in a dungeon. And you have to work your way backwards out of the dungeon. You start with no party members and have to recruit monsters to help you. Ive heard its at least a contender for most difficult pc rpg in history. Supposedly only a small percentage of people who have played it have even finished the first floor of the dungeon or something

The post-game dungeon in .hack//Quarantine. It's 15 floors long full of enemies called Data Bugs. Data Bugs have infinite HP and the only way to beat them is to use the MC's ability "Data Drain" to turn them into killable monsters. The more you use Data Drain the more infected the MC gets. The higher his infection level the more likely bad things such as leveling down or even getting a game over can happen. You can't even avoid the enemies since each room is locked until the enemy for that room is dead.

Final dungeon in smtiv apocalypse

The effects in the first 2 areas, even with 3d off, are one of two things in gaming that have ever made me nauseous. It also applied to the battle scenery. Then there's the fact that it's actually actually supposed to be disorienting and long, and just. I could never ever replay the game if I wanted. And it was a good game. Good enough that this actually makes me angry.

Wandering dungeon was worse though because you had to get it all in one go. You could backtrack after bosses in 2.

I never finished it, got tired of farming rare drops trying to prepare for EQ.

Phantasy star 2's dungeons were pretty damn bad, and the stupid random encounter rate didn't help matters.

The Great Crystal in FF12 for its exact same scenery in every screen combined with no map, a confusing layout, gates that need to be opened by pressing a button in another area and then a timed challenge to get to it before it closes.

The Secret dungeon in FFXV as well, the games controls were not designed for the platforming that it required.

If we go by that then wizardry is worse. Especially I want to say 4, it doesn't just have teleporters but rotating tiles that force you one way, usually into teleporters.

And I believe the entire game is technically all the same dungeon so.

I beat it. Once. The harder part for me is that the enemies were all basically max level so that's a loooooot of fights that go for awhile before you can even make them vulnerable.

The bonus one at the end of .hack//G.U. volume 3 isn't much better but it's at least more manageable in the remaster version that released a year or two ago. 100 areas, and to open doors you need a certain amount of Chim spheres. You get those by kicking Chim chims, critters that either spawn on decently timed platforms that continuously send out some on occasion. Takes forever when you need like 45 for the third door that area. Room doesn't lead towards the next area? Too bad, so sad. Trees can also have them drop out when you kick them but those aren't repeatable.

It's mitigated slightly in the remaster because your carrying capacity is raised from 99 to 999. The amount needed per door is zones 1-10 5 each, 11-20 10 each, 21-30 15 each, and so on.

Same goes for Etrian Odyssey. All takes place in a big tree.. And non story mode Untold(and who the fuck plays story mode over classic anyways?)
