Maybe after they're done with their training and probation, that is. Is it true that they have six figure salaries despite all the negative stereotypes? I know that the job often comes with working nights, but that is still a lot of money for a job that doesn't require a college degree.

Starting salary in my area is in the 60s, but 5 years experience in a specialized unit will easily get them over 100k salary.

However, considering the amount of benefits they get, they're much closer to that after the 2nd year.

But that's the case for all government jobs. Highly overpaid.

In Great Neck, NY which is just above Queens, the 21 officers there make an average salary of 220k a year. I believe they're the highest paid police force in the country.

im at 36 after 4 years and cap out at 43.... They have the same salary steps . Detective is a lateral position. I also worked a 140 overtime shifts last year lol. Theres more for patrol officers than detectives

Like patrol officers? Highly doubt they make that much, even in places like nyc. Detectives and higher positions can make 6 figures though

Officers who have worked five and a half years receive a salary of $85,292. Including overtime, a uniform allowance, night differential pay, longevity pay and holiday pay, total annual salary can be over $100,000 per year.

Guess the pay is like the Military.

I mean how much difference is the pay between a uniform cop, police detective, special investigator, belt badges and the such?

Also one has to add experience and ranks into it.

Nassau County cops sit on their asses all day and occasionally pull over and harass 20 year olds and make shit up as to why. Literally. If there's a call for an ambulance, 4 cop cars show up with it and just chill for an hour shooting the shit with each other. They clogged the shit out of my street the other day. For over an hour. For no reason. Talking.

Yes, pretty much. There's a military school/facility there as well so not a lot of stuff happens. They just sit on the hills going downhill waiting to give people people speeding tickets.

They're not actually Nassau PD though. They're their own thing called Great Neck PD but Nassau County PD should have jurisdiction either way and they sit on their ass all the same in Great Neck.

It varies depending on where they work, what department they work for, etc.

Officers, detectives, and sergeants in my city top out below 100k. This is a large urban area, and you may find that quite surprising. City governments usually show how much police in their community make since it is the public sector. Even with the added benefits, no one below the rank of captain makes 100k. To be considered for the rank of captain or higher, the candidates must have a college degree as well.

Not as a base salary.
They do a lot of overtime and paid duties to compound that pay to get to 100k.
