We live in a meritocracy and those in power decide who has merit. America had a chance to control covid-19 with the vaccine, The good news is that the vaccine is being administered. We are doing something right.

The bad news is that the selection process prioritizes holding on to power. If you let policy be determined by the best decisions our scholars and engineers can agree on, then you lose power.

The federal government distributed vaccine to the states. (A significant portion is missing with apologies but no explanation). The states distribute to the counties and the counties distribute to medical groups, many of which are in the private sector.

We had a chance to vaccinate the front line medical personnel and we blew it. What I hear (Please correct me if you know otherwise) is that medical groups are vaccinating according to importance. The most knowledgeable may be the most important but if he/she is working remotely, then he/she is not at priority from my perspective. Give the vaccine to someone going face to face.

The only way the decisions being made about managing the pandemic make any sense at all is if you assume that they are being made in order to hold on to power.
