My mom was telling me how I need to mate soon otherwise I would end up like some of my uncles who are single in their 50s and broke with no kids. She recommended that I agree on an arranged marriage from a family friends daughter from Hong Kong around my age (35) and that I wont be disappointed. She can cook, clean, do my laundry, and take care of the babies. I told her that even if I mated with someone, I'd rather do it with a white woman rather than one of my own kind (chinese). My mom dropped the plates and utensils she was washing in the sink and turned around and threw the towel at me. She asked if I was crazy and I said no. "So why the hell do you want to mate with a white woman then?" then she called me crazy and foolish in Cantonese.

I mean, why not? Everyone else in the family is following the old fashioned Chinese guy dates Chinese girl path and that sounds overrated and I'm more open minded so id rather get to know so someone who isnt my race. But she says "it's the traditional way".... wtf. No thanks. I'd rather have kids that look mostly white and have white privilege. She had no idea what that meant.

She said she"ll talk to my dad about what we just discussed so I'm expecting some ass whooping later on.

How do you end up broke in middle age with no kids?

When you're an employed able-bodied adult you can amass quite a bit of savings AND maintain disposable income when you don't have the immense money-sink that is raising kids.

Am I missing some cultural related hurdles involved in this scenario? Because where I'm from single people who got it together are rarely broke. It's parents who are more likely to have thin wallets because the cost of raising kids can get ridiculous. That modern dynamic has been fuel for on-the-nose memes for a long time now...
