I dont consider running a sequence of preprogrammed movements dancing.

On some level if its not reacting to and controlling the dancing for itself it doesnt count.

Having dance moves that it can string together is fine. But if a robot doesnt start shaking its ass when you put on something with a beat, can it dance?

I say no.

I don't know. There's a lot of professional dancers out there that basically only do choreography and never freestyle or anything like that.

I have no problem with choreographed dance moves but when the whole thing is preprogrammed from beginning to end I disagree.

Turn off the music and there is no difference in what the robot can do. How is it dancing in any way different from following a set of instructions to go take out the trash.

Thats much easier to call dancing.

This is just a robotic spasmthough. I would say that what the robot is doing isnt dancing unless the intention is to grind on some fembot at da club. Or in very specific situations to celebrate a touchdown.

I'm on research teams for one branch of the military working on automated air and land drones/robots. My coworkers have helped host DARPA challenges, most recently the SubT one

Right now we're stuck with Clearpath robots and custom drones (nothing I work on is classified so I'm not going to get two new airholes in the back of my head for saying this)
