See here we're gonna make you travel to a destination and on that journey we're going to give you some exposition in the form of character dialogue

But here's the rub, if you try to go the speed of an actually basically competent human then you'll miss the dialogue. Hope you don't mind taking the long slow route just to make sure you didn't miss out on two characters telling each other how much they hate each other!

Ubisoft is the worst at this. Here's a 5 minute conversation for a 30 second journey.

you have to basically stand still to get all the dialog

I don't know why they think thats a good idea

Its made me appreciate those dialog scenes that actually end just before you get to the destination. cause it seems they actually put in effort

It's immerserve

If you want to talk to the people you have to roleplay as someone who would talk to people. Move at their speed, look at them.

If you're roleplaying as an idiotic anti-social idiot who rushes to where he is told to go like a madman, surprisingly people won't talk to you.

Imagine if your girlfriend said "Let's go to Luigi's for dinner tonight." and instead of walking with her you stole a car, drove straight there through traffic at 90 miles an hour, ran over 7 people, and then got mad that you missed her conservation.

Well no shit Buzz Aldrin you chose too.

To me it means the writer and the person directing the gameplay scene actually got together to make sure it worked. Like I said in the Assassins Creed franchise there are many times where you have to stand still just to have the whole conversation play out. Has nothing to do with keeping pace with the NPC.
