I personally love the story in FF8, but I know it's generally hated amongst fans, so it's included with 12 (also generally hated). The villains get no development and heroes barely get any either. The big climactic showdowns at the end felt like nothing because I'd only seen the bad guys a handful of times through the whole game. Actually I'm not even sure what the main goal of the whole game was. Was it just "stop the imperial splinter group?" 160 hours of gameplay and it mostly felt like filler story-wise. I did really like the Dragoon class quests though, those were the only ones I felt really meant something. Tactics A1's story is very divisive, and a vast departure from the original; I liked it for what it was, but I don't begrudge those who despise it. Tactics A2's story is genuinely, irredeemably bad; poorly structured and thoroughly forgettable. What passes for an overarching plot is forgotten for most of the main quest and only resurfaces at the very last minute.
