This is way way worse than the April peak. I haven't been following covid numbers but yea now shit is hitting the fan.

The covid patients I'm seeing more of are younger patients needing to be on ventilators. Like super sick young people in their 30s and 40s without many health problems otherwise.

Its probably the Thanksgiving surge that's hitting. I get calls left and right from Neighboring hospitals asking to transfer their covid patients because they are full. I have to just put em on a wait list cuz we are full too. Got icu patients sitting in the ER cuz there's no icu beds.

And they are not just simple patients om ventilators. They are requiring constant care, enough that if a typical icu nurse has 2 patients, she's getting overwhelmed cuz each patient is requiring so much attention.

Everyones morale is down and they're just trying to survive their shift. Every shift has the same mentality.

And we are a hospital with tons of resources, who have tons of ventilators, masks, ppe, etc. But now we don't have enough medical personnel to handle it.

I don't recall all their stories off the top of my head but I know several of these young people were not taking any precautions. One of my sickest patients on ecmo, his brother is my friends patient. Back in the summer he was talking about how it's a hoax and overblown. Now that his brother is our sickest patient he told. My friend he takes all of what he said back.

I know this isn't covid, but I had a dude that told me about how he got a dui that screwed up his life. He told me that all it takes is that one time getting caught and the million over countless times of driving drunk do not matter.

I'd be skeptical if it was both

I mean I'm not a doctor but everything we know about viruses usually points to the case being that if it spreads more easily it's usually less deadly, no?

Is this an idiotic post to try and sound smart, or an idiotic post trying to downplay social interaction during the November-December holidays?

You do know there's a southern hemisphere with "opposite" weather, and we're experiencing a surge too, right?

But not every country celebrates holidays the same as here in the US. If the surge was due to places reopening we would have seen it sooner since places started opening back up in August.

nurses are dealing more than any person can during these times. i know a nurse who took her life back in May. imagine now if its worse than it was back a few months ago. your friends are posting the frontline effects on themselves. like all the nurses now are probably holding themselves up with workload. too busy to process the emotions themselves with their patients

nurses now will be dealing with this for the rest of their lives tbh. most will work through it because its what gets them by.

I honestly think this is because of people generally getting comfortable over the summer and steadily relaxing their precautions.

If you look at the states with the most cases per 1 mil pop, the top half are all mostly Trumper states. And Trumper states are generally warmer weather than no Trumper states.

As a resident of a Trumper state I cna tell you even know people do not give a fuck.

He's shit posted for years on a different account about doing like 3 or 4 different career paths with wildly inconsistent stories. I would never believe a single thing he ever says.

That being said, hospitals are absolutely swamped right now and things are terrible, but Dan Haren is a terrible poster.

Hindsight is a bitch. Thinking back to the early pandemic days when we were hovering around 120-130 total patients and we were struggling. What I wouldn't give to go back to those days now.
