This is basically Thomas' job/hobby so not referring to him, but looking at the comments is there really a large group of people that are interested in this thing that also have the skills/tools/time to hardware hack it?

The thing doesn't even have enough buttons to run straight roms

Hardware that's not connected to the internet is the "safest" to hack.

You can't hack in extra buttons though. Like in the end this thing is going to be severely limited in what it can do and there's significantly better options out there.

Looking at the goofy hardware and wiring involved, you're better off buying some shady Chinese knockoff handheld, or a used PSP.

Yeah which is why I said I'm not questioning Thomas doing this, because he's actually putting in the work.

More like why on earth would you spend $50 on this thing ($70 in Canada) and then sit on it and wait for someone else to do all the work to in the end come up with something that's still going to be extremely limited.

sure, but just because you can hack a version of doom onto a pregnancy test doesn't mean its worthwhile, and that holds true for the game+watch thing. if you want an old emulation machine you can easily make one from a rasberry pi, and it'll run better and likely be cheaper.
