Assuming they are a publicly traded company too, they have fiduciary responsibility legally to their investors to listen to and potentially accept such deals if it makes financial sense.

I am sure any struggling studio would much rather go bankrupt with dignity and know that everyone would be unemployed than suckle the tainted teat of Electronic Arts.

Most people have mortgages to pay and families to feed. Why wouldnt you?

Most game companies dont survive in the long run without selling DLCs and other microtransactions.

Executives like money.

I'm gonna hate what will happen with all the Codemaster games that come out 2 years from now when EA has their hands fully deep in all their games. Probably F1 2022 is going to be a broken mess with heavily paid DLC tracks and cars.

Companies are typically ran by jerkoffs looking for the short term gains so the actual developers who do the entirety of the work have no say nor would likely want anything to do with EA.

That's why you read stories of employees either quitting or laid off after a buyout.

The things that make gamers happy are not the things that make game companies money. Given the choice, they are going to prioritize the latter, for reasons that should be obvious.

lol.....and then Take-Two bought them which proceeded to obtaining IPs to Duke Nukem, Max Payne, Tropico, Mafia, Jazz Jackrabbit, etc. No one is safe from Corporate.

No, I mean the fact that EA is infamous for buying companies and then dissolving them. It's not like cutting your arm off versus getting an ugly robotic arm; it's like cutting your arm off or dipping your arm in acid. You're losing the arm either way, just one is the more painful and humiliating option.

EA gives you two options:

1. You can join willingly and get a few good years before being dissolved.
2. You can struggle and we give you the worst treatment possible dissolving you ASAP.

All companies know what EA does and they know their options.
