Beef alfredo with penne pasta or linguini is amazing. Throw in some sundried tomatoes and maybe some broccoli. Holy shit that's comfort food!

Alfredo is more American-Italian.

I will say though, if you actually make the sauce yourself, you will be blown away by how unhealthy it is.

Fettuccine Alfredo started off as the desperate attempt of Roman restaurant owner, Alfredo di Lelio, to find something that his pregnant wife, who had lost most of her appetite due to pregnancy, would be able to eat. So, he added some Parmesan cheese to an everyday Italian dish, fettuccine al burro (Fedduccine with Butter), and she couldnt stop eating it!

Edit: and I've made this version. Extremely high calorie, but you really can't eat a lot of it just because it's so rich.

Ive had it homemade as well. Its a very heavy sauce that makes me feel sick. At least the American recipes. I do sometimes make a light cream sauce with white wine, garlic and parmesan/gruyere but not as thick as your usual Alfredo.
