The clan armor gives +2 standoff streak for easy kills (which means easy resolve, which means easy healing), so I've just been rocking that + Sakai demon mask. I did change my antler helmet into the upgraded Gosaku one, which has a curly part above the ears and a white mane. I don't want to wear armor that provides less armor than a bathrobe, so I've been skipping most of the others.

Jin's old caretaker actually died at a cemetery after hallucinating him as his father (who had an affair with her?), so...maybe I feel bad about making her handle all those hallucinogenic plants. I'll pour out some hemlock for her.
hated her. just make me the darts. the quests just drag on.

I've been walking all over, too. To max out my first couple skill trees, I'm gonna need to buy that lame-ass "jump off your horse" ability, which sounds like garbage.

Basically my thoughts. As she was dying and doing this reminiscing, my main thought was "this cemetery has no crickets; what a waste of time".

It's terrible. Jump off the horse attacks doesn't even kill an enemy. At least in the third act it does around 50% damage to a single enemy, maybe less.

Yeah, even now, bombs, fire arrows, and explosive arrows don't seem to be OHKOing anything, except maybe archers, who are stupid targets to use 'em on anyway. I think sticky bombs' OHKO perk still applies, though, so that's what I've been using as a quickfire weapon.

The horse jump looks fucking cool though which is the most important part

You can't snipe enemies if you jump into the middle of them.

Isn't it odd that you give a dude twenty bear hides, but he only gives +1 poison darts to your holder? Oughta gut this dude for ripping me off.

Okay, I think I did all the generic quests in this second region, including Norio's monktastic defense jobs.

Got a good laugh when I fought the "spirit" and got them down to low health. They shouted, "What are you doing!!??" like I was supposed to just stand there and get slaughtered. Get rekt.

The frogs are disappoint, son.

Did the Six Blades quest and killed the final dude. Wasn't super difficult, but he had more unblockable attacks than the others.

Finally got a kickass helmet with the stereotypical crescent moon shape.

Welp, beat the second act.

Saved Yarikawa and they all think I kick ass.

Ryuzo tried making me think we could work together to take down the Mongols. What an idiot! Of course, I killed him. Least I could do after he burned that poor peasant alive.

After poisoning the Mongols and having a fairly bloodless victory, my uncle was none too pleased and wanted me to pin the blame on Yuna (LOL) to save face. I threw that nonsense back in his face, escaped imprisonment, and ended up getting my horse killed.

RIP Kage

I'd play up the "you're a traitor!! die!!!" angle, but by escaping, Jin might be a traitor, too. This is why if you're going to do evil things like poison enemies, you do it well out of range of everyone else, not leave them flailing in horrific agony as your parental figure walks in. Live by the fermented milk, die by the fermented milk.

Ahh, so that's its purpose. I thought it was a harikari icon for some reason and wondered why the hell that'd be there.

Just got into the second act yesterday after waking and doing as much as I can on the first island.

Things are starting to get repetitive a bit but I'm still enjoying it.

Just got Gosaku's armour. Don't have much time today so I'll try to get some random side missions done.

Honestly I'm like 6-7 skills away from completing the skill tree, and that's only from Act 1.

Did the quest to go up the blizzarding mountain to get the "Way of the Flame". Turns out the special technique is just putting oil on your blade and lighting it with a spark. What an ancient secret.

Did Masako's quest yesterday (this morning?) and finished up the traitor. She made her sister commit suicide, though, so it was another shallow rumination on "revenge gets you nowhere". I'm glad they didn't make amends, though, as they did in...

...Ishikawa's questline, which culminated in Tomoe double-crossing the Mongols, then fleeing on a boat. Ishikawa could've sniped her, but after all his talk on "don't be like me" and "I wish I had a family instead of this bow" stuff, it was the imagined ending. It was pretty pathetic how he kept saying he'll do what needs to be done throughout the questline, only to crap out at the end. Oh well.

Finished Norio's questline, too, where they found his brother at the end, mutilated, and he revealed he had informed on all other monks to save his bro. This is why they say "kill your idols". Norio later flipped out on the Mongol warlord who cut off his bro's limbs and burned him and his band o' brigands to briquettes.

Welp, beat the game. I spared Lord Shimura at the end 'cause I'm not a parricide, even though he was ordered by the shogun to kill me and I had all my family lands confiscated. Now I live in a shack DOWN BY THE RIVER (figuratively) and can explore the post-game. Of course, I already killed all the Mongol camps except one on the blizzard mountain, so I guess it's time to find all those stupid haiku/bamboo/whatever places to finish up. Is Legends Mode any good? I ignored all those storyteller spots throughout the game.

Final pic dump time. Probably the most badass one I took the entire game is this monkey-faced one near the burning trebuchet. It got tiresome that Jin would do this after every camp and liberation, but this one managed to be good enough to change my mind. Who's a damned dirty ape now?

Khotan Khan: Kill me...and another will come...
Jin: (stabbing him in the face) LET THEM COME!!!

In my mind, that's how the exchange would've went. Shame it wasn't as dramatic! The decapitation was nice, though.

On our way to the final duel at the childhood sparring ring. The game wouldn't let me equip anything but this paper-thin Ronin Armor, so I knew something was up. I wanted to fight my uncle with a monkey face, just for laughs...but it was not to be. Silly crap like that is probably the reason why facemasks always disappear in story scenes.

If you die, you get to retry, but not before hearing Lord Shimura's final quote before he presumably murders you for good. I saw it a lot 'cause you start with very little Resolve and L-Shim has an unblockable three-hit combo. It was almost as annoying as Khan's, although if you can spare some Resolve, a Heavenly Strike can interrupt it.

Home sweet hovel. Yuna's crack is pretty funny, 'cause even though it has nine thousand tchotchkes, 90% of it has no roof, so they're just going to get ruined. Think ahead next time you do a memorabilia collection, Jin!

I like it, but it is rather shallow. As far as I understand no new content will be added, so the little there is is all that will be and it sometimes feel like a waste to spend so much time optimizing a character when there's nothing else to use them for. Also it's rather grindy due to the rarity of one of its currencies, and the higher difficulty survival missions are just too fucking long. 45 - 70 minutes kind of stuff. Still I can't help but like it and I still occasionally play.

Legends mode is actually pretty fun imo. The story is more a tutorial and the fun parts are the survival and raid maps. It's not the deepest experience ever, but it's a good time murdering fools with the homies and unlocking stuff.
