The idea of being a highly developed species landing on a planet that is not yet developed can be a super intriguing premise.

Hell, even the whole aspect of 4D or whatever you wanna call it from Star Ocean 3 was super cool. It could have taken the series into a whole new premise where you are never sure if what is happening is based on reality or if you are in a program.

The revelations of 3 even make weird/bizarre characters make sense in continuity since they were player avatars from the 4th dimension or whatever you wanna call it

Then the series kinda went downhill into just really generic type stuff.

While 4 was a generic romp, I think it had its own charm in its own right. The game also looked very beautiful for its time, though a lot of it was invisible walls

The HD remaster was great too. They even did Myurias boob veins. I play a lot of waifu games, and i cant think of any that go that far.

They went to the extreme with Meracle in SO4. Her outfit leaves nothing to the imagination and like half of her crotch is exposed

Star Ocean 3 is one of my all time favorites. SO4 was horrible. I bought Integrity and Faithlessness but didn't get past the tutorial. I didn't give it much of a chance tbh but it just seemed so generic and I was bored to death.

I think i am in the extreme minority that loved 4 and 5. I even got the CE and guide for 5 on launch. I was fuckin hyped.

3 is my favorite. One of the few action JRPGs with a real challenge to it if youre playing on Universe/4D, AAA was clunky sure, but learning it and the timings felt so satisfying.

Plus, its got Maria Traydor. Shes cool af.

I always liked playing as Mirage, but you can definitely rack up damage as Maria pretty easily

One was good. Two was great. Three started great and took a poor turn in the second half.

Now that I think about it, I just haven't felt any desire to play the new ones after 3's dumb plot twist. At least 3 had fun gameplay.

I loved 3. Also some of the girls in 4 and 5 are freaking hot. 4 wasnt as good as 3 and even though I bought 5 I've seen bad reviews and never played it.

Star Ocean series was only supposed to have three entries. That's as far as the original director carried it. Tri-Ace and Square Enix wanted more, so we got Star Ocean 4 and 5 out of it.

Still hoping for a Second Evolution port to the Switch.

I greatly dislike the ports. Both the SO1 and SO2 ports. I prefer the originals by a landslide

Ive been through 3 but after the reveal it just felt like it ran out of steam.

The mp/hp things odd, tons and tons of bad skills and plenty of altogether bad characters.

It was quite a step down from 2.

I agree. It felt so epic, but the 4d thing ruined it for me. It downplayed the whole series to being pointless

I'm salty because my Star Ocean 2 save glitched out and I constantly fell through the floor at the Ranger's Hut at the start of the second disc. Never made it further than that.

Hmm cant recall I ever had that problem, although I do remember it randomly freezing in the Cave of Trials a few times.

Damn never experienced that but I woulda just restarted it lol. Theres no telling how many play throughs I have of that game.

The series definitely peaked with the 3rd one.

I've tried several times to get into Star Ocean 4 but could never make it past a few hours before completely losing interest.

I didn't even care enough to try the 5th one.

1 and 3 are good games, 2 is an all-time classic, 4 and 5 are some of the biggest disgraces in gaming history

I dont think they were ever the main selling point of the series. 4 was the most fanservicey of the series (barring the mobile game). And the main selling point of that was the lore for the series as a whole since it was a prequel.

They're not all the same species. She's the same as Roddick, a Fellpool. Meracle from 4 is a Lesser Fellpool.

Whereas all of the Fellpool are listed as the kind of Fellpool they are.

When I say humans I mean irl. Everyone on Faykreed IV is considered Faykreedian. Fellpool, Highlanders, and Featherfolk.

Edit: the wiki has some mislabels if that's what you're using

edit: The wiki is one of the things I was using, but I checked in the game as well right after posting "Huh? I don't remember any of the other party members having tails." to make sure they don't have tails I wasn't remembering
