Killing off half the universe's population once doesn't do shit. Instead he really needed a system that would limit and control population growth permanently.

The MCU was kinda masterfully written for the most part but that simple problem I can never forgive

You really think someone called "The Mad Titan" would have a logical, thought out plan?

I mean I at least expect it to pass a basic arithmetic test

I figured he was mad in the Howard Hughes sort of way, not the Donald Trump sort of way

He's got extremely logical and well thought out plans in the comics. They intentionally made him stupid for the movie.

Well, he just wanted to please mistress death.
The movie didn't expand into that too much, but in the comics that is his real goal.

I thought his expectation was that post-Snap, everyone would suddenly see him for the genius he was and work to avoid overpopulation. That's why his past self is so caught off guard by the Avengers trying to undo the Snap.

I understand why they didn't want to introduce the literal personification of Death into the MCU, but it makes way more sense in the comics when he kills off half the universe as a gift to her because he is in love with her and not as some sort of weird plan to cull overpopulation.

What earth made you think that? The dude said (assuming he was the surviving half) that he would retire and watch the sun rise on a grateful universe.

Yeah, MCU Thanos was a knock-off Anti-spiral. The comic book Thanos is more unique.
