Have a Samsung series 7 TV, and various Apple devices. iPhones can connect to the TV over Airplay flawlessly, but the laptop (macbook air) cannot. It can't send the stream or mirror the laptop screen. Just says "cannot connect to samsung series 7".

I did the basic stuff first. Updated firmware on router, on TV and on laptop. I managed to get it working ONCE after a router restart, but the next day it stopped working again. Subsequent restarts don't help.

I'm guessing there may be some kind of port issue?

I also tried setting up a DMZ and listing the laptop's local IP address in the DMZ, but that didn't work. Do I need to put the TV's local IP instead?

Or is there a better, safer issue...

(P.s. I also tried turning off the router firewall and it still didn't work, but I didn't try a restart after turning it off).

How old is the laptop?

From what I've heard, Apple Airplay on the new smart TVs only works with Apple Airplay 2, and is not backwards compatible with the previous version.

It's an older mac (2015) but I was able to update to Big Sur OS (11).
