The rich get richer and the poor get poorer. We are the the wealthiest nation because we got the biggest corporations and companies with rich ceo's, which is like 2% of the population. The rest are the poor starving people who spends all their money to feed the rich.

Arent a lot of homeless people mentally ill? Would they even be able to wrap their heads around managing a property?

The best bet for them would be a group home like situation. Not even a homeless shelter, but a round the clock care center to make sure they dont wander or hurt themselves.

That and trying to get all the junkies clean. Thats a massive undertaking in itself. It would require a lot of medical treatment and coming up with individual plans.

And none of this would work unless they WANT to be helped. You would have to send people to homeless camps to even let them know about placement plans and centers or put flyers up and hope that word spreads, and hope they dont think it is some kind of trick.

A lot of this is just armchair thinking and hoping. But all the good will in the world means jack shit if you dont put a plan into action.

If you care, put in the leg work to get in touch with people that can make this happen. City leaders, current shelters with connections, write a senator to try and get some funding put that way. Or directly take in or sponsor a homeless family. Circlejerking about "Billionaires bad" on gamefaqs is doing less than nothing.

Most cities in the US have extremely restrictive zoning laws that prevents new housing from being built. And when you limit the supply of something, the cost increases. Cities with the highest demand often have the most restrictive zoning laws, meaning homelessness is particularly bad in certain areas. California has 12% of the US population but over 20% of our homeless population!

Another crazy stat:

LA metro population: 13,131,431
Homeless people: 66,436

Tokyo metro population: 37,468,000
Homeless people: 889

The only difference between those two cities is one does not restrict housing from being built. While getting housing built in CA looks something like this:

People have tried to house them for free before and there ends up being horrible damage done to the places that house them. Feces on the walls, etc, you name it.
