It's just a chill easy way to get a change of scenery in your day. You notice stuff walking that you don't when you're driving. You get to be in your own head a bit, feel the wind on your face. Simple way to get the blood and mental juices flowing. If I didn't walk every day I'd go nuts

Sometimes animals come up to you while you're walking. Well, in the suburbs anyway. The only animals that came up to me when I lived in the city were roving bands of wild dogs lol

But here I've had cats, birds, even raccoons come by all curious like. IDK why they seem to like me. Maybe I've got that sweet blood and they're just waiting to rip me open

I did walk today, I walked about 1/4th of a mile round trip to pick up food but it was my first time leaving the house since last weekend. It was great...but only because I need it occasionally

Thats why if I got a dog it would be a small one that would only need a walk every 3 days or so. And why id prefer a cat. What does that have to do with walks?

Holy crap please be a troll!
All dogs need to be taken on walks, the size of the animal doesn't matter. Older dogs need shorter or less walks, but if you get a Dachshund, Corgi, Pug (plz don't get a pug, anyone), or Chihuahua it'll still need daily walks to let out it's energy!

The size of the animal does not determine how much exercise it needs. Hamsters in the wild can walk up to 5 miles a night (they're nocturnal! ) and 9 miles at night in captivity.

no, you are wrong. chiuhaua or papillon can be walked every 2-3 days as long as you play with them a lot every day. every article i read said that

I have owned a both a Chihuahua and a Dachshund, and I grew up in an area where Chihuahua's are very common. If you don't walk your dog it's going to chew things up, piss everywhere, or be really upset because it'll be trying to get it's energy out by chewing and you'll yell at it.

Also where will it poop and pee? You can use the mats sure, but a walk or yard is always better. And if you have a yard then you'll still have to go outside to clean up the poop, and you may as well just walk the dog at that point.

http://www.petchidog.com/chihuahua-exercise

1 Year to 6 Years - When in good health, an adult Chihuahua will require at least 1 good walk per day lasting at least 30 minutes. Heading out twice is just fine as long as the outings are spaced apart

http://barkercise.com/exercise-chihuahua-need/

There are three main types of exercise and activity you must provide your Chihuahua every day.
1. Daily walk
2. High-intensity free play
3. Mental stimulation

Fuck dude, do better research.

im not saying walking them every day isnt good for them, im saying it doesnt hurt them to skip a day or 2 as long as they get exercise other ways. look it up yourself, chiuhahuas do not have to be walked every day and some even prefer to never walk

Small breed dogs tend to be more prone to weight issues due to the fact that their owners dont tend to take them out as much as they would larger breed dogs, so its important that you ensure that your small breed dog gets enough activity every day.

Sure, you can get away with not walking a small dog 7 days a week. But it should be 5 days a week minimum, and even then the two "off days" should not be back to back.

Okay, I probably came off too harsh, and I apologize.
My family and I would occasionally rescue and rehome dogs and cats and so I take their needs very seriously. I've also owned dogs, cats, rats, and frogs at the same time so I understand how much work they all are. Now because I work so much I just have one cat.

Animals are amazing, if you want something low maintenance but still very loving then a cat or two would be perfect.

If you want even lower maintenance get 2-3 rats, they're super smart, can be cuddly, have tons of personality, and make great pets if you're prone to having bad days where you just want to check on food/water and ignore them for a day or two. You still will need to interact with them often, but if you have a big enough cage and 2-3 they'll be happy by themselves often enough as long as you put in extra time when they're young.

thanks, rats have an "ew factor" when it comes to girls, but ive watched a ton of youtube vids and theyre super cute. ill probably just get a cat, waiting for a well behaved really cute adult one to pop up. post holidays is the best time to get one as they get returned after being given as gifts.

Eh, Google "rats with teddy bears" and show that to any girl. Too cute.
As for cats, that's a great plan. Likewise getting a stay or rescue as they always seem to appreciate the life you give them.

The other day I walked about twenty miles. My poor feet.

I don't go for daily walks, but I do walk quite often. I don't have a car, and don't use bikes. I don't mind walking five miles at all, which is roughly a round trip to my town centre and back, including wandering. Ten miles is pushing it, but I can cope with that. Twenty miles is painful.
