i just did a quick quote from several companies, here are the "competitive" rates I was offered (no collision, just liability):

Liberty Mutual: $130.75/mo
Progressive: $125.63/mo
State Farm: $118.00/mo
AllState: $116.00/mo
Geico: $86.79/mo

keep in mind of a few things...

  • i'm a male
  • i'm 28 years old
  • had my license since i was 20
  • this is my first car
  • no/bad credit.
  • i don't own anything except for the car, i rent an apartment
  • not military

When I said basic I meant not excessive. My shit used to be like 50 bucks more a month before I bought my car instead of making payments on it. It's why I paid it off so early tbh.

oh well in that case, you're getting a good deal. The ones I listed above are literally the bare minimum. Just barely enough for my car to be legal. I would care about the bells and whistles, but my ass is broke

Yup, the privilege of driving a vehicle is super expensive. Monthly payments, insurance, registration fees, inspection fees, toll fees, and regular maintenance, i.e. oil changes, wiper blades, light bulbs etc. But hey, its worth it I guess.

Increase your bodily injury coverage so that if you get hit by an uninsured driver, you're not screwed. It's worth the small amount extra each month for that peace of mind.

I think mine is slightly above the minimum for things and I pay like $75/month.

With USAA (dad and grandfather/mother on moms side were in military so thats why I get it) and have been paying it with this car since May 2017 (2013 Accord).

It was originally like $110ish then went down sharply cause I turned 25. 28 now.

Geico can be really random

Somehow I managed to create a quote with collision that is $79 a month. I didn't fabricate anything

But now I'm unable to replicate that amount again. However I'm able to reselect it under the saved quotes

When I was 19 and got my first car my insurance was around $130 a month. I'm 34 now and pay $23 per month on my daily driver with Geico and about $65 a month on my project car (I got custom collector's insurance on it).

I've only ever had the cheapest insurance as well as anything more is a waste of money, imo. I've always owned fairly cheap used cars that aren't worth full coverage. Besides it helps when you're mechanically inclined and do most of the repairs yourself.

Yeah, with a clean driving record, over 30 i'm still paying almost $700 for 6 months of coverage on my 04 wrangler. Some states are just insane in costs due to other drivers even moreso than you. Around here we have tons of the most aggressive drivers in the country, as a result we have a metric ton of collisions.

My insurance greatly increased my rates even though nothing happened, no claims or tickets or anything, so I switched companies and saved a bundle. I'm currently paying about $400 per 6 months. Really though, insurance is such a scam. I wish I could just keep money in an account to act as coverage to show that I have the money available to pay for accidents. Injury should be covered by health insurance and that should be provided by the government. Insurance companies are just leeches.

holy fuck thats cheap

i pay $250 (up from $140 in just 2 years) for comp-rehensive on a 2015 sedan. in 30s, good credit, no accident history, <10k kms per year. It'd be even more, but i chose the high deductible

why? because our premier is buddybuddy with the insurance executives and made it his first item of business once he got elected to remove jackup caps. insurance has raised approximately 80% across the board this year alone.

What kind of car do you have? That matters. Not factoring accidents and years you've been driving, newer cars and more expensive cars will drive up the insurance rates.

Uh, don't do that. It's illegal to drive without insurance. Not worth the risk when you get into an accident or you get pulled over.

Also I agree with a other poster. Get a high bodily injury liability rate. You never know man.
