Like she'll climb in most of the way but leave her ass hanging out and piss on the floor.

She's about 18 and arthritic, don't know if that's why.

She definitely still has bladder control, she only pees in the one spot.

It's getting pretty irritating.

Yeah, my old cat used to do that a lot. No clue what was up.

My old ass cat did that years ago too, I just started laying pads around and built kind of a mini ramp so he could get into the box easier

It is what it is. Maybe she has some issue at that age. Just mop it and clean it, may not be much else you can do

My cat will pee right outside the litter box if it isnt cleaned out every day

Calico.

It might be.

We tried taking the lid off, didn't help.

Maybe a new one with shorter walls?

She's always been one to piss right at the opening, it's just now she moved back six inches.

Put a small baking pan full of litter in front of the box, something shallow enough that she will still keep going into the main box. When she goes over the box, it will catch in the other pan outside of the box. Other option is to buy puppy pads and put it half under the box, and half in front of the box, so at least it's catching the urine and makes for easier clean up.

When this happened with my cat it was because it had become Diabetic. She was a heifer already when we took her in. Since diagnosis and insulin twice a day post meals, there's only been one accident, and I'm pretty sure that one was because I missed an injection(Not forgot, missed piercing under the skin. Didn't notice the insulin smell until later.)

So yeah, check for kidney issues and diabetes. It's usually an indication of urinary stress or pain.

I just filled a wide, shallow dish with about an inch of litter and put it just outside the opening.

Might help.

Honestly, at 18 might as well just deal with it. She doesnt have much longer anyways. The effort for correction is not worth it now. Best shot is maybe some liners

Might be painful for her to use the box, especially if she has arthritis. Cats cant communicate pain with us sadly. Id look at a ramp, box with lower sides or other options that will help her use the restroom.
