With every single modern game being available digitally now, will physical games increase or even retain their value?

The main appeal of old used games before is that it was often the only way to officially experience them, with only emulators/roms being an option otherwise.

But now we can easily access and play all games that exist the last 2 generations by official and instantly accessible means digitally in the store, for prices equal to or much lower than the standard game price.

Is that market officially gated off at 2010?

There are literally hundreds of Super Nintendo games I cant play without owning a physical cart. Not every game is Mario. And thats just one system.

I recently found out that over 99% of original Xbox units won't work anymore because of a faulty part that corrodes enough to destroy the motherboard by this point in time. So much for original Xbox discs, huh?

Old systems and games are dying. Even if you obtain an old copy, there's a good chance it doesn't work anymore.

You would think, but you ever looked at the prices of this stuff you would see the prices popping off. Its almost a predictable trend at this point: wait about 20 years and the prices of this retro stuff starts going up through the roof as the 20 somethings that grew up with this stuff now have money and pay out the wazoo for it. It is dumb to me for the reasons that you mentioned, but that is nostalgia for you. Rona has also exacerbated this trend, I feel almost every game went up 15% this year because of it.

I dunno. Clone systems for 5th and 6th generation consoles can't be too far away.

I would say yes.

The AAA companies killed it with digital distribution. Plus they weren't making any money from the trade-in market.

All this means is collectors like myself have to pay even more to play retro games.

i have seen a bump in some ps3 game prices (the more rarer ones).
ps4 the amazing spiderman 2 is over 50$ (that one is likely going to be all i would purchase in that month).

Yeah the clock capacitor in it was made with a cheap part. Eventually it starts oozing acid and eats away at the motherboard. You need to open the Xbox up and just yank it out.

The last revision of the Xbox, v1.6, fixed this issue but that revision was made near the end of its life.
