about how it gave them a fresh start, how they were able to turn their lives around, etc.
/r/personalfinance responds to every question about it by saying "no" "i'm 50,000 dollars in debt and i dont make enough" "you dont have a debt problem. you have an income problem. get another job." "i work 2 jobs already." "sell blood. get a third job." "i dont see any option left' "yeah but your credit report!!!" "I cant feed my family?" I get that /r/personalfinance tries to give practical advice to people but sometimes they seem so far out of touch with reality

what is important to consider is that reddit has exactly two types of people:
https://typicalstudent.org/uploads/images/2018/12/cover-guys-live-in-apartments-like-this-1.jpg so whether you are getting advice about finance, video games, books, politics, whatever, it is all coming from either a literal child or a manchild, rarely are you getting replies from guys who have dynamic lives in the real world. so its easy for some guy in a studio apartment to bang out on his glowing keyboard about how you need to put 60% of your income into a roth ira or you will die penniless --- ... I get that /r/personalfinance tries to give practical advice to people but sometimes they seem so far out of touch with reality yep, this. I hate that sub now. hey guys Im thinking about buying the new ps5. WHAT? You better have 10k in emergency funds, make 100k a year, 850 credit score, and maxed out 401k. Instead of buying a ps5, dumpster dive behind GameStop and get a free broken ps3. Fix it and youre fine. So where should someone go then if they want real financial advice? Honestly it depends on the kind of advice you need. r/personal finance has good general ideas and resources but the people there try to apply them in unrealistic ways to sound cool. Financial advice for someone making $50k trying to buy a house or start saving for retirement is different and simpler than someone that is married, has an income of $300k, $800k in stocks, and just inherited $2mm. If you have a more complex situation it may make sense to get professional advise. If it's more simple you can get by with general debt/income principles. --- ************************************************ https://imgur.com/iZdWIKJ ... Copied to Clipboard!
