Yeah most of the biggest challenges in MM2 are sort of irrelevant to how much damage you do anyway, so it probably doesn't matter TOO much. There's a couple of enemies whose gimmick doesn't even come into play because they die in one hit instead of two, though. Only the western versions of the game even have the extra difficulty - the Japanese game ONLY has difficult and future NES MM games do not have multiple difficulties.

The next time I play (probably tonight) I will be starting MM2 over on difficult. Just for fun Im going to let you the people decide the order I play through the game! Probably not many people will submit an order so you definitely have a say. One person alone may pick what order I play in. If no one submits an order Ill choose stages at random.

Vote in the order you want me to go through the stages and Ill go with what gets the most votes. Each top choice gets 8 points, second gets 7 points and so on. I do think MM2 is a little unique in that it really shows the player how great the weapons are. Obviously Metal Blades is the star, but Air Shooter, Atomic Fire, Quick Boomerang, and Bubble Lead has its notable uses. I do think the unique challenges of MM2 is going through the Quick Lasers without Time Stopper or Heat Man blocks without Item 2, but he already did the first one and...well...I guess he can still do the Heat Man blocks without realizing Item 2 can be used lol

I think I was close to making nanis proud by beating a Mega Man game in one sitting but who knows, this set of Wily stages might take me as long as the rest of the game, so itll have to wait until tomorrow

Leaf Shield is great too; either a huge projectile that KOs most things it touches in one hit, or a nice shield if you're riding a platform e.g. in Crash Man's stage or Wily 4. Nice for clearing out things like the swarms of baby birds in Crash Man's stage as well.

MM2 has a really fun slate of weapons, actually. I generally think Mega Man games are better when they do, which is one reason I'm a bit less high on many of the X games relatively (they're still good, though).

Ill be finishing Mega Man 2 and giving my impressions of it soon, BUT

Voting for my MM3 playthrough order is now open, same rules as before.

Also, is there anything I should know before starting MM3? I assume not since theres no difficulty option. Im not asking for advice on where to start or robot master weaknesses, just if theres anything out of the ordinary I should know about that will enhance the experience.

The story setup of Mega Man 3, which isnt in the game intro, might be good to know.

Dr Wily has renounced his evil ways and is now working with Dr Light on a peacekeeping robot named Gamma! They need Mega Man to go get some power crystals back from some rebellious robot masters.

Thoughts on Mega Man 2s first eight stages:

Pretty easy stage. Let me start by saying, e-tanks are a very welcome addition to the series in my book. The most notable thing through the first part of the stage is the run of several traps, which are called presses. After that theres some mild platforming around the 2:40 mark.

I find a lot of the enemies in MM2 annoying. The enemy around 2:57... gah, annoying in this level due to the conveyer belts. Apparently theyre called Pierobots. Mega Man loves its enemy respawn, which makes it a bit of a pain! Not tough, but a bit annoying to deal with. That is followed up with a couple of the equally annoying blocky enemy, which appears in numerous stages. I never quite figured out how to dodge it, to be honest. I also never bothered going for the e-tank at 3:42, because I thought I was more likely to lose a life trying. And then of course, the spring enemies are a bit of a pain. But they operate like the spiny enemies from MM1 and are generally easy to avoid.

I can see where Metal Man is a good choice to start with. In addition to his weapon being OP, hes not too hard to fight with only the buster. Hes got a nice detectable pattern for his throws. This ended up being an enjoyable boss fight for me, and it wasnt very hard. Once you know how to watch his jumps to know how many blades hell throw, its very manageable.

Back to Wood Man, this time on difficult. Id like to add a few thoughts - the section from 0:40 to 1:20 can be quite difficult to navigate without taking damage, in my opinion. When the dogs unleash their longest strings of fire breath, theres a pretty good chance Im taking a hit. Because of the order I tackled the game, I never even thought about using time stopper to navigate this room!

Although the video makes it look pretty easy, I really dislike the piece of the level with the monkeys and bird, which are called pipis. I want you all to know, I HATE THE BIRD ENEMIES. Theyre just annoying and appear often. I did use metal mans weapon this time through, though, and it helped a lot with diagonally navigating those few rooms in a row with rabbits. Id also like to add this: there are no checkpoints in this level after 1:20 until the boss corridor, and it sucks clearing the monkey/bird treetop section only to lose a life before reaching Wood Man.

It helped having beaten Wood Man before. I just blasted away with my metal projectile when I could and dodged his attacks with relative ease.

The soundtrack rules. Those damn frogs are damage sponges, but not too hard to deal with. They also triggered me remembering a couple weeks ago when I found an actual frog in the toilet of my new home, and set about capturing and releasing the thing. I dont like frogs, so I hated it. I definitely lost a life to those platforms at 0:35 the first time, never imagining theyd drop.

Me at 0:51 - ohhh snap were going underwater now. Those urchins or bombs or whatever they are on the ceiling randomly reminded me of minesweeper, if anyone was wondering. The damage from those shrimp enemies which spawn from the fish added up pretty quickly for me, so I realized I needed to be a bit more careful in taking them out. Overall, I found this stage to be a lot of fun, and not at all annoying. It did start to feel a bit long, though, and I am glad I didnt have to restart it at any point.

It surprised me how effective metal blade was against Bubble Man, but you savvy Mega Man players already knew that. I found this to be one of the easier robot master fights.

I actually struggled with Air Man less than last time because I really got the pattern down, but I struggled with the stage more! Perhaps because I was rushing too much. The Goblin enemies (big floating faces with horns) are a major pain in the butt. At times I actually let the petit goblins it spawns hit me so I could take advantage of the I-frames to make the jumps. The threat of getting a game over is very real in this level because a bad jump or getting hit at an awkward spot means death.

So many bird enemies... including in spots where the clouds obscure them from view. I HATE YOU BIRD ENEMIES!! I WANT TO MURDER YOUR CHILDREN!!! I AM FULL OF RAGE FOR YOU, DUMB BIRD ENEMIES!!!! Anyway its time to do Crash Mans stage. Im sure Ill get a break from those bird enemies.

Weakened by Air Mans stage and with no extra lives remaining, I decided I should kamikaze and start fresh. But all of the enemies at the start of this level did like no damage, so I decided to climb a bit longer. Longing for death, I could not die - I got about halfway through this stage and its long windy platforms.

I would just like to say, the screen at 1:10 sucks. Its tedious at best, and so annoying when you fall. At the time of beating this stage, I didnt even know there was a way to avoid these parts. The enemy at 2:00 is difficult as well. He knocked me down a few different times. Eventually I learned just to jump as close as possible to him so the recoil didnt knock me off the platform.

The segment which begins at 2:20 is one of the reasons why Crash Mans stage is currently my LEAST favorite stage in Mega Man 2. Seeing the birds made me quite angry at first, but I mowed them down relentlessly with my lovely metal blade. And yes, I did take the ladder on the far left my first time around.

When I finally made it to Crash Man, I tried using literally every other weapon I had to that point before Air Shooter. I got a game over and had to play through the whole stage all over again during my trial and error experience. But when I used Air Shooter on this clown... good god. Who knew it would end the fight in less time than it takes Dr. Wily to wiggle his eyebrows.

I dont like this stage, but I could see my opinion softening if I actually used every item I could to skip some of the tedious ascension.

This stage was a welcome reprieve due to its brevity. Theres not much to talk about besides the onslaught of Sniper Joes with mechas near the end. I still find them tough to avoid. As for the stages titular robot master, Metal Mans weapon trivializes the fight. I did not mind.

On the whole, I had fun with this stage.

So after realizing how powerful the weapons are in this game, I vowed to figure out what all of them do to the best of my ability. I was able to grab the extra life right off the bat here as a result, and I gathered that time stopper would work its magic on the difficult section I previously cleared without it. I grabbed the extra life and e-tank around 0:42 also.

So at 1:12 I finally used time stopper and when it ran out... I still died. At which point I was back where I started, and with no time stopper. I dont even remember all the permutations of how I died. Died at the beams and got sent back to the checkpoint at the start of the dark room. Made it to the bottom and died to the mechas. I lost 5 lives and got a game over. Crappy stuff! Eventually I made it to Quick Man and found him quite tough. He was noticeably easier on normal difficulty, thats for sure. I made it to Quick Man and again, died. Finally I decided I needed to make it to Quick Man WITH time stopper so I could avoid the fight.

On my winning run, I didnt use time stopper to get past the beams, but I felt pretty good about having learned Quick Mans pattern. So I beat the jerk without time stopper just because I could. It was a more satisfying moment than I expected to experience with one of the stages I had already cleared previously.

My biggest thoughts. (1:00) ohhhh my god its disappearing blocks again theyre back (1:37) you people on gamefaqs expected me to do this whole part? lmao no way Im using the item-2 to jet past this crap

I actually quite like Heat Mans stage, it taps into this mindless muscle memory kind of platforming for me. I did actually have to play through the level twice because I was at no extra lives when I made it to Heat Man and he quickly knocked me out before I could learn the pattern. However, hes actually pretty easy with a full tank of health. His biggest attack is devastating, but easy to avoid. I bubbled him to death.

And with that, were all caught up to what I did last night!

Um guys Im literally stuck at Wily 1

i cant seem to get up the last gap where multiple uses of item-1 are needed. When I am on the ground I can create multiple platforms at the same time, but once I jump on one of the platforms I created I cant make another platform. Making this unnecessarily difficult

I had zero trouble using magnet beam, but I cant figure out what Im doing wrong here
