They went scorched earth during that episode. No restraint whatsoever. I get the disagreement between the three of them, but damn lol. They made him shit his pants after having his face ripped off by a mountain lion.

The running theory is that Isaac Hayes may or may not have already been debilitated by a stroke, and Scientology "handlers" were controlling his public image regardless.

That's what I've always read. They refer to them as "members of Hayes' entourage". His own son says his decision to leave was not made for him.

That's one of the reasons season 10 was a major dropoff point for me. I still like the show but with the early seasons almost all the episodes are good while now it's more a select few per season (seasons 20-21 had basically none) & a lot of meh ones to filter out during rewatches.

It was definitely one of the lesser quality episodes, but it's also the same season as Smug Alert!, Make Love Not Warcraft, and other classic episodes.

We know more or less what happened. He was ill and someone from the CoS sent in a resignation letter on his behalf. It's likely the CoS also prevented him from getting real medical help because religious cult nonsense which led to his death.

I'm going to guess probably, because they didn't seem to resist letting him out of his contract at all.
Either they knew he was in no shape to ever come back, or just didn't want to deal with the handlers. Possibly both.

They didn't know the truth at first. They thought he quit in a hissy fit over the scientology episode and never bothered trying to reconcile with him.

True, but the good episodes far outweigh the lesser quality ones in that season, imo.

Yeah, they even have a bit in that episode at the end about how they shouldn't be mad at Chef for leaving. They should be mad at "that f***** little club" for scrambling his brains.

They set him on fire, threw him down a mountainside, had his face torn off by a cougar, dismembered by a grizzly bear, and then he shit his pants.

Yeah if they knew he was sick and it was his handlers that was pretty fucked up.

This is the story that I think is the most likely. Isaac Hayes never pulled a punch making fun of any religion, or anything, really. His music is also good, if y'all are fans of jazz and soul, check out his music.
