It's probably because this vaccine uses a fragment of an HIV protein. It's not like it's giving a false positive for no reason.

Worth bearing in mind this was spotted in the initial trials so was never publicly available. The whole point of trials is to pick up stuff like this so don't get the issue.

We have 0 long term prognosis on how any of these vaccines affect the body, mostly on the account of its only been around 9 months.

I always find these conversations meaningless though because theyre distributing these to high risk people first (Clinical staff, elderly, etc). Its not as if in the next two weeks you are going to be able to walk into your local Rite Aid and get a Covid vaccine over the counter even if you wanted to.

Theyre taking it more for the patients benefit, so they arent spreading covid to people who are sick or recovering from surgery. To me it does make sense that the people who are treating covid patients and are most directly interacting with them remain protected. Them being forced to take the vaccine is more a grey subject ethically.

I thought the current vaccines was only confirmed to reduce the effects once you have caught it. I don't believe there is currently any peer reviewed proof that it prevents the spread in the first place.

Vaccines dont cure illness; they prevent it by forcing your body to build antibodies by injecting a dead strain of the virus into your body. This in turn will allow your immune system to protect you should you come into contact with it. The reason people have to get flu shots every year is because viruses are probe to mutation so even if your body develops resistance to one strain, it may change and your body can no longer resist it (This also doesnt account for antibody lifespans).

If you already have the virus it will need to run its course. If your symptoms are extreme this is where you would need medical care.

This isn't true for the newer RNA vaccines. Anyway I posted a link that explains in more detail that at the moment the current candidates aren't proven to stop transmission.

You can still catch the virus when you're been vaccinated. But the symptoms are reduced. It won't stop you spreading it once you've caught it.

Honestly this does not sound like its going to make any meaningful changes going into 2021, which is disheartening to hear. What truly has made this virus so devastating is how easily it is spread and how most cases are completely asymptomatic. The only way I can see this being effective is forcing the entire population to get it so in essence when they get covid they dont die.
