It was fun back in the 90s when the N64 rumble pack was released, but other than that I never really cared about it. I turn it off every time I can.

I was indifferent about it. Dual Sense seems like it can really do some wild shit if devs actually put time into it. It's impressively immersive on Astrobot.

C, confirm.

It's never done a thing for me. I turn it off in every options menu for every game and system.

(Better for battery life too nowadays.)

I like it , I really like it in my racing game.

Funny story about , back in the N64 year, I was fight Goldberg and his speared me and it rumbled so hard it came out of the control. I just new that was the coolest thing in the world. I mean look how bad Goldberg is (lol) . Even on video game.

I'm not sure if I'd like it now if my hands could handle it. I used to be ok with it in the 90s and 00s but since about 2020 I've had a lot of nerve issues and vibration makes my hands go near instantly numb.

It depends on the game. In general I think its good for conveying info to the player without having to include a visual or audio cue.

in racing games the rumble is often used when your tires just start to slip and break traction. And particularly in sim racing games that is a huge deal. Trying to play with the rumble off would be an enormous disadvantage. In shooters it can indicate you taking damage without there being some generic blood splatter or red effect being displayed on the screen whim is nice IMO since Im probably looking at the enemies more so than watching a health bar.

and there are a ton more examples. I feel like this thread is just a contrarian take with no real logic behind it.

It worked well for Pokemon pinball GBC.
It's actually one of the few games where I actually enjoyed it and never once felt like it was intrusive enough to cause my hands to become tired or vibrate hard enough to make me lose focus on keeping track of the ball.

like with all other controller gimmicks, there will be a fun tech demo that uses it and then nobody else ever will
it will just be another justification for the overly-high controller prices

Playing classic final fantasy 8 and timing squal's gunblade to get the extra damage rumble is awesome.

Newer ports suck for not having rumble, lol.

The use of Dualsense rumble in Astro's Playroom is actually legit next level. However, it's annoying with some other games I've played like the PS5 version of Fortnite or Worms Rumble.

Like above post said, with VR it's extremely important. Really it all comes down to the proper use of it. If it's distracting and making my hands go numb because everything has rumble to the max then yeah it will be annoying.

Developers should use it as a tool and not think of it as necessary if they don't want to or at least have simple options on the level of intensity.

Perhaps a sub minor reason why I generally have no use for racing games :p

(but my non interest in the genre predates rumble)
