You mentioned a "stuck" star rating. Here's how it works:

Several preppers have their star rating "locked" by email chains. When you reach a hard lock on a star rating, you need to wait until that prepper sends you an email. After that, you'll have to talk to them or do a special delivery. After that, the rating will go up again. Any deliveries you do when the rating is locked will contribute to the rating as soon as the lock is lifted (i.e. if you did 5 deliveries without the rating going up, they will all count at once when their email "quest" progresses).

Idk if somebody else already explained this.

One more post: if you're running short on crystals, there's an easy way to farm a lot:

Once in a while, visit the incinerator. Somewhere on the back or the side you'll be able to climb up, then climb down into the middle. There's a ton of respawning crystals for you to use.

I noticed a chain icon by the novelist's son, but didn't know it was email-related. Odd.

Also, I'm wondering what would happen if I just went into a terrorist camp and murdered everyone. Would a voidout occur there and wipe it off the face of the earth? Or would they just respawn like normal? I don't want to have to lug 'em to the incinerator for some reason (even if there are respawning crystals there :P).

I ask because I had a voidout occur right outside Capital Knot and, honestly, it wasn't a big deal. Giant crater that ate up (maybe) a whole BT zone and made traversing easier. Probably wouldn't need to do that on a second playthrough, but they may have some uses. Just thinking about a voidout in the wind farm's forest... No reason!

I almost did this, but managed to get down safely. Was gonna restart anyway, so dying wouldn't have been a big deal anyway.

Oh I made it down successfully... but it probably took me an hour or two to make the climb. And I was only successful because I had heat pads with extra battery, like 4 ladders, and a shit ton of climbing anchors (including some special ones from a prepper), special legs, the works. Tbh I should have just killed myself and saved the time, but I wanted to see if I could do it lol.

Often times you need to wait for them to ask to be included on the network, then another when they're willing to go "all in." You won't get these blocks for preppers that get on the full network immediately (typically). Several preppers are like this, and it's important to know when going for all 5 stars (which honestly isn't too hard if you're building ziplines/roads). Also you may know this already, but every prepper gives you new gear. For instance, there's a prepper you probably missed that gives you a rain cover for your backpack so you can give timefall protection to your packages and prevents them from falling off in combat.

I'm not sure. But you can stack bodies in the back of a truck and haul them all at once I believe. I never killed anybody since I usually tried to stealth the terrorist areas, but as I mentioned earlier my brother killed/burned them all and he never saw them respawn after hours of play. If you void out you won't be able to farm resources form their camps, and each camp has its own common resource. That's the only downside I can think of.

Checked out the incinerator and got about 500-600 crystals, so that was a good stopover. If it's doable semi-reliably, and at all incinerators, that'd be a good alternative to just robbing clients of their goods.

As for terrorist murdering, yeah, I probably wouldn't bother since each camp has its own usefulness. Shame the ones that need ceramics and metal are out near Lake Knot. When it comes time to build ziplines to the mountaineer, though, those alloys'll come in handy.

Been stealing resources from my other settlements to fund the "Reach Mountain Knot Project". Made a road that lifted an enemy truck up onto the overpass for extra giggles. This is also a convenient spot to trigger the terrorists' alarm, too, as you can gun 'em down when they ascend the ladder. Not exactly sporting, but they're using real bullets and I'm using rubber ones, so it evens out.

Got a few more roads built and now I'm only a mile away from connecting all of Mountain Knot. I think that might be the end of my road-building adventures (unless there's some in the western, BT-riddled hellhole by Edge Knot) but it'll certainly be the start of my ziplining. I think I can make about another fifteen inherently, plus more if I start destroying older stuff, like that safehouse near the weather station I haven't used once.

Been having some fun snow adventures today, setting up ziplines to get around without too much trouble. Found the roboticist (can't use hot springs...) and mountaineer again, and almost have a zip network set up that avoids that massive BT hangout nearby. Also saw that you can probably connect the weather center zip network up to Mountain Knot's by putting some targets on the mountain ridge. I kinda want to try, but dunno how useful it'll be, especially since it'll undoubtedly be hell to repair.

You'll need to set something like that up if you're interested in doing certain premium deliveries.

I had a zipline network that took me straight from the farm to the top of or across the mountain, but they weren't arranged efficiently enough to get to the delivery point in like 20 minutes (I think this was the limit). I was mad as hell lol.

Damn, that Sticky Gun is doing work. It's good being able to flip objects down cliffs, in ravines and rivers, and basically anywhere you don't feel like walking right back to you. Gotta catch it in midair, though -- otherwise it flies right past you and potentially damages itself. Not as useful as it could be in the early stages, but in the snow-covered peaks? Good to have around.

I've been making mine about 350 meters away as often as possible to maximize their usage, and minimize bandwidth usage, but that's not how my initial batch at the weather station/timefall farm was (IIRC). As long as I can five-star a location, I don't care too much about weird premium deliveries, although I've done a few with the highway system in place.

Next quest is to find the photographer...who I already found days ago... Odd. It was weird how early they're discoverable but there's rarely any photographer-related items sitting around. In all my travels, I've seen about...I dunno, two. Hopefully that changes.

Yeah, I noticed they were pretty easy -- a sixty-minute timer turns into a twenty-minute timer or something. With a good zipline network, they need to pare that down to a five-minute timer to really pose a challenge.

Yeah, mountainous regions are kind of annoying, and as I go closer to Edge Knot, there may be more need for ziplines. They said something about a tar belt, so I'm gonna try to cross it with z'lines like I did at the nuke-eating tar lake by South Knot.

I've actually taken to putting some of those "contribute resources" signs near all my ziplines, just to remind people that good things like those ain't gonna be around forever without a team effort. Not sure if people ignore 'em or what -- mostly it's auto-pavers getting topped off -- but hopefully some do a bit. I know generic porters use ziplines and can occasionally contribute stuff.

Auto-pavers (roads) get additional repair materials delivered all the time in my game. It's very lop-sided compared to randoms upgrading other things, though that's maybe because roads need metals and ceramics -- two of the most common resource types. I think when you repair something, you can use any of its base components to help, so that's another reason why. Ziplines need chemicals (the rarest material), general alloys (rather common) and chiralic crystals, so they're a little harder to do.

Some attention to detail I've liked and want to note before I forget:

  • covered trucks can't benefit from timefall shelters but crappy, uncovered MULE trucks can
  • if you walk a path in the snow frequently, the snow wears down and the dirt becomes visible, improving it

Some things that surprise me because Kojima DIDN'T include them (yet?):

  • The inability to pick up chiralium crystals by driving over them with a vehicle. Such a waste of time to stop, get out, walk ten feet, pick up crystal, walk back and start driving, drive another 20 feet, repeat ad nauseum. Just do it in a Mario Kart way and make up some technobabble to explain why it's happening, like an obverse vacuum exhaust nozzle (OXEN).
  • Rifles apparently can be upgraded with scopes, but they're cosmetic or something? Got my hopes up for nothin'.

Got to Heartman's Lab and he's sent me off to find a geologist, paleontologist, and someone else. Still up in the snowy mountains, so ziplines are the name of the game. Heatman's wacky back story is actually kinda touching in a way -- he dies every 21 minutes, searches for his dead family on a beach, then gets revived by his pacemaker machine. His entire room is padded so he can drop dead suddenly and safely, haha. I don't even mind the record player doing Chopin's Funeral March for added silliness.

Now that I hooked up the First Prepper, he gave me a santa hat of my own. I no longer have to pine for others'.

Welp, delivered the antimatter bomb to the paleontologist. It helped that I could use an existing zipline to get over the BT area, but the real MVP is the all-terrain exoskeleton. I ditched the power variant for this one awhile ago and have been very impressed -- it easily gets through most snow and even has little claws to help with descending/ascending slopes. I don't think my bomb had any damage when I turned it, which certainly wasn't the case the first time. Every bump of my van gave it some here and there, haha.

Do you wear heat pads? I found them pretty useful in the mountain section of the game.

Ehh, haven't seen the need. The all-terrain exo gets me around quickly and there's usually free safehouses or timefall shelters to recover stamina if I have to. Since I'm building ziplines everywhere, that's another avenue of escape, too. Maybe they're useful in some other way -- the sticky gun certainly was.
