Reminds me when I was a kid and melee was still new and I didn't know any of the characters besides mario and pokemon.

Mii Fighter is the Mii custom characters adapted for fighting.
Corrin is the main character of Fire Emblem: Fates.

Also, that's the base game roster. DLC has added 8 more Fighters, with four more left to be revealed.

Robin is the Avatar character of Fire Emblem Awakening, which came out immediately before Fates. Corrin is also the Avatar of their game, but Robin and Corrin have nothing in common aside from that.

They're created characters, so they can be male or female.

As an Avatar, both Robin and Corrin have male and female versions (several other characters also have gendered alts). The male is the default for both, though in my honest opinion, the female really should be the default for Corrin. She's so much more popular and promoted than the male is, even if her popularity is mostly for superficial reasons.

After you find out Marth is from Fire Emblem it's pretty hard to not instinctively recognize that the other FE characters are from FE just by looking at them.

Oh thanks! Yeah I think what was confusing me is that while making my way through in world of light spirits when I fight the challenger they give them different skin so sometimes it's long haired and sometimes short but when I go to the regular smash battle to choose a character, the default is the short haired character seen in pic.

"Female Marth" is Lucina, Marth's distant descendant and Chrom's daughter from the future. She also disguises herself as Marth in Awakening.

And not all the FE characters have Blue hair; Roy, Robin, and Corrin don't. I agree that it's definitely a thing in FE, though.

I like Shulk but if I didn't absolutely love Xenoblade 1 and hadn't played it, I would've easily considered him to be FE character. Cloud on the other hand definitely looks out of place, he has a different anime design to the FE characters.

Huh. Wow at the disguised as Marth bit but fair enough. I'll admit it was a small joy to unlock Roy and see him finally back again in Smash after 20 years. I remember feeling it was criminal to have him and Mewtwo replaced by different characters back in early Brawl days.

Well in his original game he and the rest of the cast looked like Ivalice characters, which are set in a FF universe, similar of sorts to Cloud so.

And surprised by the Kirby posts, but won't judge since maybe not everyone played Kirby games. I for one really liked Crystal Shards as a kid because the ability combination the game introduced felt absolutely mindblowing to me at the time. Being able to combine fire and rock, ice and lightning... all those combination possibilities are what kept me playing those same levels over and over.

You can basically have Kirby in Pokemon by getting a male Jigglypuff, naming it "Kirby", and teaching it Mimic.

Kirby definitely has a bit of a Pokemon vibe going for him.

Both Roy and Mewtwo came back with Smash 4 DLC, actually.

Both of them were also likely fully intended to return to Brawl as well, if the data left on the Brawl game disk is any indication. However, they were likely cut when Sonic was approved to be added at the last minute, forcing the devs to scrap their work on Roy and Mewtwo and work on Sonic instead, which also resulted in the game being delayed.

So that's what happened... at the time I thought that pokemon from those new gens lucario replaced mewtwo for the new gen of pokeplayers, and Ike replaced Roy. Good to have them back, particularly Roy.

Dark Pit is an actual character in Kid Icarus Uprising, but in Smash he's mechanically identical to Put except for a different Final Smash, different element in the Side B, and I think his arrows are different.

Similar to Ken and Ryu, Lucina and Marth, Peach and Daisy, Roy and Chrom, they are different characters in their series, but are near identical fighters in smash w/ some slight differences in their moves. They are called "Echo Fighters"

Dark Pit debuted in Smash 4. He was originally intended to be a color swap of Pit, but someone on the dev team modeled an Electroshock Arm for him, and with Sakurai not feeling comfortable having Dark Pit use the Three Sacred Treasures (Pit's Final Smash in that game), Dark Pit was split off into his own character slot.

Same thing happened with Lucina and Dr. Mario. Lucina was going to be a Marth alt, but they made her her own character when they decided to change the properties of her sword vs. Marth's. And Dr. Mario was made his own as a service to people who enjoyed his somewhat-different playstyle in Melee.

Lorewise, Dark Pit is a mirror copy of Pit, representing his darker aspects, and he started out as an antagonist but later one becomes an ally of sorts.

Since everyone explained Dark Pit I'll go into Dark Samus.

She's originally a highly-mutated/evolved form of Metroid (Metroid Prime), one that fed and relied on a mutagen called Phazon. Because Samus's suit was corrupted by this Phazon by the time Metroid Prime was defeated, in a last-ditch effort, Prime took the Phazon from Samus's suit along with some of her DNA, and she ended up morphing into a twisted version of Samus.

The ones at the bottom? I'm actually playing P5 right now as a matter of fact, so that's... quite the surprising coincidence for him to be in smash. Are the games even available on nintendo consoles.

Also how do I get the DLC, is it free or needs money or needs a paid nintendo online subscription and more money? I haven't bothered to make an account yet since I only play nintendo games offline, and thought online would be free like the Wii.

You can get the DLC through buying the two Fighters Passes, or individually. To play online you'll need a subscription.

And yeah, currently the only Persona 5-related things on Nintendo consoles are Persona Q2 on 3DS (which features Joker) or the Persona 5 Strikers game on Switch.

I''ve only played FE 7-10 and Three Houses but basically since FE Awakening they've gone the Pokemon route where you can choose your main character's name and gender

For what it's worth in Fire Emblem Warrior's Story Mode Robin is male and Corrin is Female so I guess that's canon?
