I think it can be tied to socioeconomics. A lot of people want a white savior narrative so if they see a group doing better than them it breeds hostility (or at least apathy) rather than compassion. This is also why you tend to see a lot of racism among whites in low socioeconomic status. Race often divides people in the same socioeconomic class from each other.

Who downplays racism against native americans? At least in my are since the BLM protests started this year there's been a lot of overlap with native communities.

This is true, and Asians are becoming more outspoken nowadays.

People ITT seem to forget that Black people made a huge fuss whenever there were injustices thrown our way, and it resulted in racism against Black people being taken more seriously. But historically, Asian Americans were more about putting their heads down and not causing "trouble" (as in, not calling out White people for their racism against Asians) and simply working on despite the harassment.

It's one reason why they're seen as the "model minority".

the "model minority" myth often works to undermine issues people of Asian descent might experience, unfortunately.

like, people of east Asian descent as well as Indian descent tend to statistically do the best economically amongst other ethnic groups, white included, so when they might face racism, it's often not taken as seriously.

that image also hurts people who might not be doing as well generally, like people from Laos, for example, where a lot of them might have come to the US as refugees.

I think a big issue is that Asian immigrants have way different socialization than Asian Americans and immigrant stereotypes that are partially true get applied to Americans. Like you cant tell me Asian Mom isnt a thing, sorry.

Honestly, the whole history of racism against Asians in America has been basically buried. I bet less than 5% of the population knows that Asians couldnt become American citizens until 1952. Like what the fuck is that shit?

part of the issue is simply that Asians make up such a small part of the American demographic that a lot of Americans simply dont interact with Asians on a personal basis to know any better.

Agreed. A lot of shady poor whites I've met have bought into white supremacist / neo Nazi values and will commit crimes and frame seemingly innocent minorities and instigate racial conflict while feigning innocence to reinforce negative stereotypes about minorities and to make themselves feel and seem superior. These domestic terrorists are honestly beyond redemption and are poisoning this country and are dooming future generations.

I don't think racism is downplayed. I know people that volunteer and work for groups that fight racism against Asians.

If anyone does downplay racism against Asians it would be racist white people. Because you cant use the whole "If Asian immigrants can be successful why cant other races" thing if it's widely known that you hate Asians too.

I assume it is a combination of a lower asian population and that they tend to do as well as or better than whites academically and financially. And there are, I'm assuming,, fewer implicated in the criminal justice and prison system.

So, its harder to point at obvious things like poor education, wealth disparity, and police abuse.

So, it just seems apparent that, while racism against asians does exist, they dont have it as bad as blacks.
