Pretty much.

Also gamers: keep politics out of games! More games should be apolitical like call of duty and the witcher or FF7!

they want games to be art but whenever something doesn't get rated as highly as they'd like, they can't handle it.

8.8 isn't a bad score, folks.

Personally, I was fine with games just being a source of entertainment. I'm not against recognizing them as art, but I never felt they needed to be taken so seriously.

I think that in the grand scheme of things the gaming community are destined for great things.

There just needs to be a way to self-regulate and trim the fat. Too many toxic individuals who would rather troll than be constructive.

Also, games are art and the fact that some people are made uncomfortable by the narrative in some games is a good place to start.

If it wasn't every game you can think of and people could offer rebuttal to one sided talking points full of inaccuracies, we'd probably love to talk politics and themes. Sadly what we get is "accept my heavily biased opinion based on far less understanding than you have or be labeled worse than Hitler". Maybe it's best to keep politics out if that's what politics is to some people.

Examples of these "one sided" games you're talking about and where the game calls you hitler if you disagree please.

That's why the marginally-updated annual dudebro shooters keep selling.

Seriously though, Nier Automata is worthy of some analysis. Notice how the politics of that world were never a controversial topic, prudes that hate attractive female characters were the only source of divide there. If one chooses to view games as art what does that say about the people so ideologically repulsed by beauty that they refused to experience such a masterpiece? And why did the very relevant to the modern world politics never even come up?

The answer to the latter question is that the game doesn't try to force a position on you as clearly positive, it encourages you to ponder these big questions yourself and come to your own conclusions. When people say they don't want politics in games what they mean is they don't want to be preached at and they don't want politics limiting artistic expression

Well, this topic is just a weird strawman so why should I bother offering insight? At least I clearly defined what people actually mean when they decry heavy handed politics in games, what exactly is it you're contributing to this topic?

Please give examples of all the "prudes ideologically repulsed by beauty" who refused to play Nier. Because pretty much any leftwing gamer person I know of loved it. And there have been plenty of discussions about Nier's politics.

I could pull up resetera threads and ultra conservative Christian blogs if you like, but my point was actually leading to the fact that that game is very political yet didn't have this divisive culture war shitstorm on release like so many games seem to lately ie only a small handful of very specific breeds of extremists were up in arms about it.
And to clarify, I should've probably said something more along the lines of "and there was no major political divides surrounding discussion of the politics in the game, discussion was tame and enjoyable rather than extremists shouting past each other.
Sigh, I'm too high to argue properly but I'm hopelessly addicted to it :)
