hated with good reviews?

Yes and yes. I have had professors who I loved I was surprised to see them get bad reviews. I have also seen good reviews for professors who I thought were terrible.

Yes.

My metric spaces professor this semester in fact. He is infamous among the university students.

And honestly?

I don't get it. Dude is one of the best professors I've had and one of the few who gets how you teach someone to succeed in mathematics. He's passionate about the topic, his lectures are engaging, and the homework load is not cumbersome. I struggle to understand why anyone dislikes him.

I will get into details with my cases. I had a professor who took marks off of me for not attending classes on Jewish high holidays (Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur.) I was too young to have the knowledge to do something about, so I dropped out. But for some reason, he got great reviews! At least he was nice to me in my last semester. By then, I knew I would do something if he gave me crap for my religion. And I once had a professor who was flat out mean, yet he received good reviews.

As for a professor who I liked but got bad reviews, I did have one professor who I thought was lots of fun and I thoroughly enjoyed having. I liked saying hi to him when I saw him outside of class as well. Sadly, the other students didn't like him.

There is another professor who I loved and it seemed that my classmates loved having him, too, but recently he has had terrible reviews on RateMyProfessors. Probably because he is not used to teaching virtually and is not doing it as well.

I don't know that I've ever hated any professors, I've disliked some community college profs back in the day who were vocally rightwing who had good reviews I guess.

I've had many professors who I adore with bad reviews. One comes to mind who everyone hates on because he, shockgasphorror, actually expects them to do the reading and discuss it in class. Mind-boggling. But he's legitimately the smartest, kindest man I've ever met in my life.

Also had a statistics prof once for gen ed who was a chick with tattoos who rode a motorcyle. Super chill, had terrible reviews that I'm convinced were just by intimidated manbabies.

Also should point out that RMP is terrible and as with all such sites there's a selection bias as mostly people with terrible or great reactions (more often terrible) will rate.

Did you notify them ahead of time or just miss class outside of what's covered in the attendance policy and expect it to be okay? I'd say there's a difference there.

It's really a shame that ratemyprofessor exists and that professors more or less are beholden to a very similar system.

I did tell my professor ahead of time. I even explained that I had a Jewish holiday. o_O

Was it within the class's absence policy?

Not that I know of. I know it wasn't within the school's absence policy. I told my guidance counsellor and she said, "He can't do that."

I dated a prof that got bad reviews. She was brilliant and gorgeous but kind of a flake, I can see how she'd annoy students.

Legally there would be no way for a student to be punished for a religious observation, especially something as well-known as Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur.

That professor's action could have opened up the school to a very large lawsuit if TC had pressed the issue.

Yup. If I were wiser like I am now, I would have done something about it. I forgot mention I was not able to pick my classes times and dates for that semester. I could only get what they gave me.

True story: Once he sent me an e-mail saying that he would not let me take a quiz another day even though it fell on a Jewish holiday. I was thinking of saying, "Yay! Five free marks!" If he objected, I legit would have replied to his e-mail and say, "Oh, look! A LUEshi!" and replied with LUEshi ASCII art.

No, actually. The professors I end up liking turn out to have good reviews, while the professors I dislike usually have shit scores on rate my professor
