But based on what Black people have embraced anime I a way that no other culture has. Like Asian cultures always grew up with it like we grew up with western cartoons. I ride for all the cartoons I grew up with. White people, for years, quietly loved anime. Type cast into the weaboo stereotype for the most part, very few people were open about it. But then black people just seem to eat the shit up openly as for fucking proud. Not remotely afraid of who cares if they make anime skits, wear anime clothes. Talk about it all the time. And I cant think to where or when it started but they definitely have made it a lot more mainstream to enjoy anime as a whole. Thats what Ive seen anyway. I actually got a non-sarcastic reply to this on reddit I asked why they like DBZ, so for DBZ specifically: It represents an origin story (and many warrior stories) that are relatable to what it's like to grow up as a black man in north america. The characters overcome odds, achieve goals, fight their enemies, etc. The notion of a great good that is faced with peril after peril (vegeta, frieza, cell, buu, brolly, etc) and overcomes one after another is quite inspiring. Maybe it represents bullying in school, to asshole racist profs in college, to systemic racism in the workplace, to difficulties in the neighbourhood or in the town, etc. In a nutshell, the story of bravery and righteousness.
