true. only good until they raised the rent massively.
previous one (where i used to live) was okay for the first 6 years until they sold the place. then the new landlord decided to jack up the rent 250$ with 1 month's notice.

had to pay it as i had no choice. since there's few places that would accept the dog i have.

I paid double rent this month as a Christmas present to mine. And he told me I didn't have to pay the $25 pet rent for next month as a thank you. Real cool guy.

Better to be your own landlord, but gotta deal with having one until you can afford that.

Good ones can genuinely be good.

Bad ones are shit on purpose to save money and fuck people over.

I never had issues with them. I set-up autopay with rent, and they never bother me.

When your apartment building is a firetrap, they're really not.

Depends on who. Some landlords depend on a single tenant for their income and some have hundreds. And some tenants depend on a single place to live while others rent an apartment in NYC or Miami while living most of the time in Michigan.

I'm talking about making ends meet, not sleeping in the same room.

See, that's why you need good laws.

The scenario you described would be very much illegal where I live (Quebec)
Wow friend, sounds like Quebec is an oppressive hellhole, why does it deprive landlords of the freedom to price-gouge their tenants 'cause they feel like it? jk the US just sucks.

Doesn't matter what you're talking about. Landlords and tenants objectively aren't engaged in the same struggle, as one has power and the other doesn't.

All part of the U.S. money game. The game rules allow this.

We're all struggling to make ends meet.

Eh, some landlords suck.

What people are really talking about right now is the lack of government aid for affected people.

So basically, we're going through a global pandemic which is causing a massive economic crisis and people are losing their ability to pay for their housing and are being threatened with homelessness.

This is, ironically, the time for the government to step up and provide humanitarian aid to its citizens but alas, we were too busy bailing out other industries like the flight one so now families gonna live on the street.
