I am the lead(not manager) for tier 1,2, and 3 for a company that provides the phone systems and kiosks for video calling, as well as the applications and the actual calling services for prisons, jails, and all that on the county, state, and federal levels.

Now that you know the background. One thing about this job is we have access to almost all recordings of both the voice and video calls, minus privileged calls to lawyers and such. This is used mostly for troubleshooting and what have you. However my boss pretty much made it clear that of we have down time and bored we can just listen to calls or watch video calls as they happen or previously. Just that if we see or hear something that should be reported, to report it.

I get that they are prisoners but I can't help to think this all is an invasion of privacy.

You think thats bad you haven't worked for a telecomm unless your entire floor gets an email everytime a Harry Sackrider (legitimatly ever time a person with a hr eyebrow raising name would be viewed by atleast 500 employees), looking up peoples browser histories, or remoting in and seeing there phones homescreen.

Hell my last supervisor was a terribly horny dude. He would demand us to log in for diagnostics but really be screen sharing us looking for nudes. You would be suprised how many peoples home screen is therir wife or themselves in the buff.
