I gave half a dozen examples a few pages back in my own life where I've been bettered/my mind's been changed through discourse. I'm sure I'm not an isolated case. It probably gets frustrating when there are people who seem completely unwavering -- I definitely felt that with Teapartiers during the first Obama presidency. But not everybody is a lost cause.
