Just dumped my partner for saying the most horrendously misogynistic crap and I have no regrets.

I was reading out the details of a news story about a prison in DR Congo. The male prisoners broke in to the womens side of the prison and subjected them to rape for 3 days before anyone even knew what was going on. My heart breaks for those women.
He just shrugged and said, I cant feel sorry for them. Theyre in prison, theyre not good people so they deserved it. I kept repeating that no one ever deserves to be raped but he stood his ground. I cant be with someone who legitimately thinks like that so hes upstairs currently packing his stuff and going back to his place. I want nothing to do with a man who thinks like that.
My mum and sister think Im being dramatic and should give it until tomorrow morning to calm down but i feel duped. I thought he was an ally.

The guy has a poor outlook judging from the statement in the story, but the storyteller is very immature with how they handled the event. I am more disappointed with the people in the comments of that thread though, good grief.

Unfortunately really is, yeah :/ I'm glad me and my sisters were all raised to not take shit like this by our parents, but far too many unfortunately aren't so lucky. It's not really their fault, as the culture they are raised in them teaches them to be as they are. Doesn't make it any less sad though and I do hope they can realise they are only hurting themselves and improve.

sounds to me like he was just being an argumentative contrarian and wanted to say something to the effect of "i don't care about the rights of jailed criminals", but the subject matter turned it into "i don't care about the rights of jailed criminals who were raped en masse", which was then spun into "I like it when women get raped en masse" by the le reddit hive mind.

Not that i agree with the guy, it was a pretty boneheaded thing to say, but to end the relationship over it? That tells me it was an infancy/casual relationship. Even if it did lead to the end, there is a process. There are steps down. To cut and run like that is pretty irrational, given if it WAS a serious relationship (i.e. live together, have kids together, etc).

he has a really shitty attitude. "hurr durr doesn't matter what happens to them because they are in prison" is a dumb fucking take.

This sounds an awful lot like you saying "if this was a mature relationship she would learn to accept that he thinks women in prison deserve to be raped."

That man's first mistake is thinking that just because prisoners are in there, it means that they did something to deserve to be there. Nobody deserves rape.

Hitlers death removed him from human affairs and stopped the cruelty he inflicted upon the world. Raping him would do nothing but provide a sick sort of satisfaction for those with vile, sadistic views of what justice should be.
