i was born in england but i would not call myself english, but rather british

It could legitimately just be that it's not a uniform rule, so it just ends up being whoever edits that article.

Probably this.

Is it the same thing in terms of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland? Some people listed as Scottish for example and some British? As with Northern Ireland that could legit piss off whoever the article is about.

i tend to think people who call themselves english have ancestry in england and more of an ethnicity thing, whereas i think of british as more of a nationality
