...that what's going on with Trump and his fucking psychotically delusional "alternative facts" supporters isn't an open threat to democracy.

they very well might believe that. but the driving force for politicians isn't to do what's right, its to maintain their own power by staying in office.

There is no "moderate / normal" GOP anymore. This is what it is. Anyone who thinks otherwise, be it Mitt Romney or the Lincoln project grifters or who the hell else, needs to ditch them or remain complicit.

I think you should have learned by now that there is no moderate/normal GOP. The GOP is an autocratic party.

I say this as a person who is technically still registered Republican

Any Republican with a seat in government who recommends alternative methods for choosing electors or to have the vote overridden should be convicted of sedition.

It's not cute or funny to take shit this far.

There has to be more than one legitimate party. The question is what the hell we do about it when the current GOP has been overridden by fascists.

The moderate GOP members are basically taking over the Democratic party, Biden is what would be considered a modern republican to the rest of the world and he as well as most Democrats despise Progressives and view them as extremists at best, socialists at worse.

The fact that so few Republicans have spoken up against Trump's lunacy tells me that they are either 100% okay with it or are so absolutely gutless that their opinions don't matter. The Republican Party won't change because they'd rather cling to power by any means necessary than attempt reform.

I don't think many of the standard Republicans exist anymore
The few I've talked to here with voting rights still said it's the first time they're voting democrat

I think next election assuming Nurgle doesn't manage to run again, they might go back to voting Republican.

I think it's less that they are stupid cowards afraid of a trump tweet and more that it would be advantageous of them to have this base of voters perpetually outraged and afraid.

Like the fact that they managed to take the SC in such a manner and the fact that they have a good shot at the senate all while being overwhelmingly outnumbered... and their base STILL thinks they are the ones being persecuted?

The problem with this Devil's Bargain is that eventually their supporters actually run for office and win, which is what's already happening.

Welcome to the politics of first past the post elections, you only end up with two viable parties. Currently they are so even in support neither can actually do anything for fear of moving too much in either direction and losing enough support to completely hand power over to the other side.

Sure seems like the GOP has wholeheartedly embraced autocratic fascism

The GOP might be fucked. Any reasonable candidate (one that isn't a Trumpanzee) will get lambasted by the Trump cultists.

Then again, Republicans seems to have a short term memory. Remember how much they loved Bush, then once Trump came around the Bush family was bad and "establishment."

The fact that 93% of those 70 million voters think an election was stolen despite Trump losing by six million votes should tell you something about American rationality right now.

Why are you people targetinq Trump supporters like this? We're perfectly normal. If we were some radical group, don't you think there would be far fewer people involved?
