...and all it did was use the pause button repeatedly?

I never figured out where that was any sort of benefit.

In a game like Sonic it can be helpful if youre trying to get combos and stuff. Speed runners use software that slows the game down so they can be more precise. In general terms I see no use for it though.

Hell yeah. I had two of those gaudy ultra-controllers for the SNES

This one, in fact: https://i.imgur.com/4mTJyEx.jpg

One of them broke. Wiring or something, idk what, but the buttons and d-pad would just constantly trigger even when nobody was touching it. It was so bad that if you tried to play Jurassic Park 2: The Chaos Continues, your character would immediately jump higher in the air than the normal jump button allowed, would begin charging his pulse weapon, and ferociously vibrate left and right while hovering.

What did "turbo mode" do?
Just acted as if you were repeatedly pressing a button when you held it down.

Ionoooo man. Since it relied on the pause button I remember it screwing with my inputs.

What did "turbo mode" do?
The switches had three settings.

1.) Off, which did nothing.

2.) Turbo, which made it so pressing the button down would initiate auto-fire (rapidly pressing the button over and over again)

3.) Auto, which just turned auto-fire on permanently for the selected button.

It worked really well, actually. One of them still does. I don't know what went wrong with the broken one.

Or yellow devil in megaman....any game where pausing fucks with frame data. Might be useful in say DMC but thats the only modern game i can think of it might benifit from it.

I had one that had the turbo and auto settings, and each one had a rate setting you could change too where it could be anything from fairly rapid mashing to 20 button presses per second.
