I've setup a Samson Q2U dynamic microphone and am passing it through a Scarlett 2i2. It works fine but it still seems quiet even with the gain completely turned up on both the interface and in the windows mixer. Is the best option to buy a preamp or is there any software that can further amplify it without it peaking or clipping?

I've seen that a lot of people use condenser microphones but I'd rather not use one since I dont want it to pick up my unneeded sound.

Make sure your input is set correctly where you plug in your mic (to the interface). It should say line not inst

There is a button that switches INST on/off for the input. I have it off.

A pre-amp would probably work but you can try some free gain plug-ins and see if you can add gain and then use a free limiter so it doesnt go overboard

Its really a matter of that microphone that yer using tbh, its purpose is to capture loud sources

if youre gonna spend money and buy a pre-amp you might as well buy a condensor mic if your interface has phantom power.. an AT 2020
