If USPS or UPS texts you info about a tracking number for a package, if you havent ordered anything, then dont even open the text. Delete it because opening those and responding to them is a phishing scam that people use around this time of year.

If you order something online, you should only track it through your email, as far as I know. Never open the texts.

Good call. I had never gotten one of those before until recently, and fortunately I hadn't ordered anything at the time so I knew it was fake, but now this time of year I'm sure it gets a lot of people.

Or emails. The place I work for, the owner is an older man, and he opened a "Fedex" email about his order, and he clicked the link, and it ransomware infected the entire computer system and it took nearly a week to recover everything.

Back on topic, they always send one from Circle K right after the UPS text. I havent been in a Circle K in years, so I know thats phishing. Thats another one to watch out for.

Real talk, if any "company" texts you a link for something you should just try to find the link on their website or Google. I don't trust anything these days.

This happened to me once and I fell for it.

I had to order something back home that needed to be picked up in person. Since Im out of state currently I had my dad order it on my behalf so he could pick it up for me.

Ive done this multiple times and he usually just puts my number/email for the tracking info, to include text updates. Which I like because it is usually very convenient.

Coincidentally I got a spam text right around the time I ordered something. Usually the text contains all the info but this one had a link and I didnt think about it. Opened it but closed it immediately, havent noticed anything nefarious come of it since then but it was only a few months ago.

Scammers like that dont like me because I dont pick up on unfamiliar numbers (sometimes I reject the calls) and have no voicemail
