I'm reading that HDMI 2.0 is capable of 4k @ 60 FPS, and that PS5 games have a standard to perform at that, which is already an improvement over the previous generation where we had to settle for 4k at 30fps.

HDMI 2.1 makes it so that 4k can go higher than 60fps...but that seems like a massive upgrade in graphical capabilities from one generation to the next if games are now able to run at 120fps.

I see articles that talk about games that do run at 120fps, but how is this done? Does it turn down the resolution to 1080p? Because if that's the only way to play games higher than 60fps, then I don't see the need to upgrade my TV to a hdmi 2.1 model because 4k @ 60fps is perfect for me.

Appreciate any info you can give. Thanks.

I heard that ps5 can't even do 120fps for backwards compatible ps4 games so unless you are a pc gamer I wouldn't worry if you don't get a display that can't do 120fps or 120hz since consoles don't seem up to that reliably yet. Also most displays that can and / or need to do that are gigantic anyway and aren't exactly moderately budgeted. I recently bought the amost affordable for what it offers HDMI 2.1 display I've seen recently, which is the 50" 4K UHD Vizio M Series Quantum which is also right around $300 and it was goodish deal and should last a couple of years before becoming really outdated by other similarly priced displays as far as I know.

No unfortunately.

I heard some bad shit about the PS5 which is already been pointed I see, but as for the new Xbox...I'm not sure on that one right now.

Don't bother getting the new generation HDTVs for right now and just wait till next year when the prices go down.

Just look out for a Sony X900H if you can still find those.

Most games turn down the resolution yeah.

The Touryst and the Master Chief Collection do run the full 4k/120fps but yeah you're looking at those sort of games really. Like it'll be a thing for indie games and ports but not overly common.

It's not worth going out of your way to upgrade for it if your TV is still looking great but whenever you get a TV in the future I would made sure it has HDMI 2.1
