With a new smart tv being set up, I'm curious at what my best non-cable option for streaming movies and series would be.

If it's a smart tv, you should have something built in. My TV has a roku OS and it's fine.

I unfortunately didn't get a Roku TV.

Firestick is the best option imo, I've used a roku and there's less compatible apps and the ui is clunky.
