Been really thinking about getting into ARs. I know now is not the perfect time to strike, but i am always on the look out.

Cant i get a rec for a good model?

Im looking for the classic AR or M16 look. Big beefy handguards, carry handle, long ass barrel. Real retro looking, but with modern machining. Im not a fan of the tactica-cool guns that are skeletonized with 40 accessory rails and have a rainbow paint job.

What are some good brands, or preferrably a specific model? Im willing to drop around 2K if the fit is right, but i wouldnt mind something cheaper if its good.

Thanks.

2k is Daniel Defense money, which is about as high end as you can get for non-competition shooters.

But you can get a very plain looking Colt, which is a very reliable brand, for well under 2k.

Better buy one now before Biden makes them illegal and taxable.

Dont forget to also buy a shovel so you can bury it in your backyard when Bidens Democrat Goon Squads come to take it away.

At that price I'd probably try to get a Colt or FN A2 rifle. You can look for older Colt rifles like the SP1 but I think they are well over $2k at this point. The A1 and A2 rifles are kinda niche since few manufacturers make those kind of full size rifles now. Colt recently made some 'retro' rifles but they are over $2k and simply not worth it imo,Colt's quality is not what it used to be but generally keep their value because of the name. You may be better off buying a complete upper and putting together a lower.

Here's a pic of my A1: https://i.imgur.com/ixpXjCG.jpg

I still want to build an A2.

he'll also come, impregnate your guns with creepy touches, and then force them to get an abortion.

Thats exactly the kind im going for right there. If the newer "throwback" models are just not worth it, maybe it would be better to dig up an older manufacture model.

I guess being actually authentic retro is better than simulating it.

Have you considered looking into the AK-47 platform? It's not as versatile as an AR-15, but they have their advantages. 7.62 Ammo is much cheaper than 5.56 right now. Though you could get an AR-style rifle that takes 7.62. What I like is they are really simple to operate and maintain.

premade on the cheap you can go the PSA route and others like Windham weaponry. they offer both kinds of versions. other than that you can really get what ever you want and slap on the attachments to it to make it look how you want. The AR platform is famous for that level of customization so you can mix and match literally what ever you feel like as long as they are AR15 parts.

if you dont want to build and you want something quality when places like BCM and FN offer those kinds of builds as well (or they used to). tho expect a $1200-1600 price on them. you also might get lucky and find a classic m16a1 retro build made my Colt for under $2000.

but as i said you can build it if you cant find a premade rifle. just remember to make sure its a 20" government profile barrel with the classic A2 front sight. a full length non-adjustable A2 stock and optionally depending on how far you want to look a classic retro upper receiver with a NON-removable carry handle (basically the handle is built into the receiver). then just pick out those builky handgaurds you want for it and slap'em on. boom, m16a2/a1 clone.

I just really want to get an AR. I always liked the look of them. Ammo isnt really a super big issue. I have a Mini-14 so i stocked up on it when i had the chance. And i dont go shooting that often.

I was thinking AR10 as well down the line. They have a nice look to them as well.
